This document updates information contained in your PowerEdge system documentation. It describes
conditions for installing multiple microprocessors in your system.
To take advantage of future options in speed and functionality, you can add a second processor or
replace either the primary or secondary processor. For information on adding and replacing a
processor, see your Microprocessor Upgrade Installation Guide.

           
                
    
To identify the primary processor connector (labeled PROC1) on the system board, see the system
board features illustration in your Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.
The following are several examples of processor upgrade installations:
• Upgrading a single processor: install the new upgrade processor in the primary connector.
• Upgrading from a single to dual processor configuration: move the original processor from the
primary to the secondary connector; then, install the new upgrade processor in the primary
connector.
• Upgrading a dual processor configuration: install the new upgrade processor in the primary
connector.
