Windows Sync Overview
Password Sync. This application captures password changes for Windows
users and relays those changes back to the Directory Server over LDAPS. It
must be installed on the Active Directory machine or primary domain
controller (PDC) for NT4 synchronization.
NT4 LDAP Service. NT4 Server only. This special LDAP server application
allows user and group entry modifications to be sent and received over
LDAP, functionally similar to Active Directory. Since the NT4 LDAP Service
functions on the NT4 Server, the Directory Server synchronization plug-in
and processes are the same for NT4 Server as for Active Directory. The NT4
LDAP Service must be installed on the PDC.
NOTE
Figure 7-1 and Figure 7-2 show the relationship between Red Hat Directory
Server and Active Directory and Windows NT4 Server PDC, respectively.

Red Hat Directory Server Deployment Guide • May 2005
The term Windows server refers to both Active Directory and NT4
(which assumes that the NT4 LDAP Service is installed). Only where
configuration or behavior is different between Active Directory and
NT4 Server will the type of Windows server be specified.
