Solid fuels shall not be burned in a fireplace in which an unvented room heater installed. Read the following instructions to insure proper fresh air for this and other fuel-burning appliances in your home.

    INSTALLATION Continued MANTEL CLEARANCES In addition to meeting noncombustible material clearances, you must also meet required clearances between fireplace opening and mantel shelf. If you do not meet the clearances listed below, you will need a hood. Determining Minimum Mantel Clearance If you meet minimum clearance between mantel shelf and top of fireplace opening, a hood is not required (see Figure 6).
  • Page 12 INSTALLATION Continued INSTALLING DAMPER CLAMP ACCESSORY FOR VENTED OPERATION Note: When used as a vented decorative, appliance must be installed only in a solid-fuel burning fireplace with a working flue and constructed of noncombustible material. If your heater is a non-thermostatically-controlled model, you may use this heater as a vented product.
  • Page 13 INSTALLATION Continued INSTALLING HEATER ASSEMBLY WARNING: If installing in a sunken fireplace, special care is needed. You must raise the fire- place floor to allow access to heater control panel. This will insure ade- quate air flow and guard against sooting.

  • Page 15 INSTALLATION Continued WARNING: Use pipe joint sealant that is resistant to liquid petroleum (LP) gas. We recommend that you install a sediment trap in supply line as shown in Figure 14, page 14, depending on your model. Locate sediment trap where it is within reach for cleaning.

If you op- erate heater with doors closed, heat buildup inside fireplace will cause glass to burst. Also if fireplace opening has vents at the bottom, you must open the vents before operating heater.

    INSPECTING BURNER Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame pat- terns often. PILOT FLAME PATTERN Figure 23 shows a correct pilot flame pattern. Figure 24 shows an incorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool.

    CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE WARNING: Turn off heater and let cool before cleaning. CAUTION: You must keep control areas, burner and circu- lating air passageways of heater clean. Inspect these areas of heater before each use. Have heater inspected yearly by a qual- ified service person.

    WARNING: Turn off and unplug heater and let cool before servicing. Only a qualified service person should service and repair heater. CAUTION: Never use a wire, needle or similar object to clean ODS/pilot. This can damage ODS/pilot unit. Note: All troubleshooting items are listed in order of operation.
