INTRODUCTION The instrument that accompanies this guidebook is known as a celestial globe. One major component is an outer globe, which represents the celestial sphere. The celestial sphere is the domain of the fixed stats. It is not actually a sphere, since all the stars are at vastly diffrent distances form the earth, but is appears to be a sphere when viewed from the Earth's surface.

YOUR MODEL OF THE CELESTIAL SPHERE The celestial sphere is made up of several parts. Let’s first a look at the outer globe, which is a model of the actual celestial sphere. The stars and certain other celestial objects are shown in fixed positions on this sphere. All but the faintest naked eye stars are shown, with dots sized to approximate brightness.
