INSTALLING & REMOVING BATTERY
Make sure radio is turned off.
1.Separate transportable housing from battery pack by re-
leasing latches at both ends of the ASTRO-X unit. Unplug
battery pack cable (attached to cover).
2.Remove battery pack cover (four screws).
3. Unplug battery cell pack cable from charger board.Care-
fully remove battery and discard in accordance with man-
ufacturer's directions. Install a new battery and
reassemble by following the above steps in reverse or-
der.
REPLACING FUSES
1. Separate transportable housing from battery pack by re-
leasing latches at both ends of the ASTRO-X unit.
2. Insert flathead screw driver and turn 1/4 turn counter-
clockwise until fuse carrier disengages.
3. Remove and replace with 7.5 A, fast blow fuse.
4. Reinstall fuse carrier (clockwise) and reassemble unit.

Remove battery, antenna and belt clip from AS-
TRO.
Turn ASTRO radio on and set for coded
or clear transmissions.
Unscrew and open cover plate.
Slide ASTRO radio onto battery block.
Rotate radio and cover plate into place and fas-

BASIC RADIO OPERATION
Radio On/Off
1. On: Rotate volume control clockwise until you hear a
click.
2. Off: Rotate volume control counterclockwise until you
hear a click.
Receiving a Call
1. Turn radio on and set mode switch to desired channe
lection (1, 2,...). Turn off MUTE function.
2. When you hear transmission, adjust volume for comfort-
able listening level.
3. For Private-Line® (PL) operation, move the PL On/
PL Off toggle switch to the Off or MON position to moni-
to r frequency, then adjust volume.
4.Your radio is set to receive calls on your frequency.
Transmitting
1. Follow procedures under "Receiving a Call."
2. Hold handset with microphone cup 2-3 inches from
mouth.
Make sure that channel is clear before transmitting.
3. To talk: Press and hold PTT (push-to-talk) switch. and
speak slowly and clearly into microphone.
To listen: Release PTT switch.
