GENERAL INFORMATION Page 3 OPERATOR QUALIFICATIONS WARNING Anyone who will operate or work around this machine shall first read this manual! This manual must be delivered with the equipment to its owner. Failure to read this manual and its safety instructions is a misuse of the equipment. Operation of this auger shall be limited to competent 3.
Page 4 MACHINE INSPECTION After delivery of your new auger and/or completion of assembly and before each use, inspection of the machine is mandatory. Use the assembly instructions in this manual as a reference to determine that the auger is assembled properly.
Page 5 ROAD TRANSPORT - HITCHING TO TRACTOR CAUTION Never stand between tractor and portable auger when hitching, unless all controls are in neutral and the brakes locked. Never raise the intake end higher than what is necessary to attach to a towing vehicle. Weight transfers rapidly to the head end when the intake is raised, particularly when the auger is in the raised position.
Page 6 ROAD TRANSPORT – HITCHING TO TRACTOR (con’t.) HITCH JACK The hitch jack is located at the inlet end of the auger. The jack is supplied with an attached pin used to lock the jack in position. With hitch connected to the tractor drawbar, remove pin to rotate jack to the transport or stationary position.
Page 7 TRANSPORTING AUGER DANGER Be alert to overhead obstructions and electrical wires. Failure to do so may result in electrocution. Lower auger well below level of power lines before moving. Maintain al least 10 feet of clearance. Electrocution can occur without direct contact.
Page 8 PLACEMENT of AUGER DANGER Make certain everyone is clear of the area when moving the auger. To prevent tip–over when backing, avoid rolling over any obstructions. Also avoid moving the auger at right angles to a slope. If the auger is to be set on a slope, approach the bin uphill.
Page 11
Page 9 PLACEMENT of AUGER (con’t.) Step 4 (Skip to Page 10 if auger is not equipped with side-drive unit) Rotate lift jack into position and lift auger hitch off of tractor drawbar with jack. Install the rigid support stand to the auger hitch as shown in Fig.
Page 14 LOCKOUT WARNING If the operator must leave the work area, or whenever servicing or adjusting, the auger must be stopped and the power source turned off. Precaution should be made to prevent anyone from operat- ing the auger when the operator is absent from the work area. 1.
Page 16 UN-HITCHING INSTRUCTIONS (con’t.) STOWING the HOPPER CAUTION Keep hands and other body parts away from the winch drum and cable during operation. Pinch points are present and serious injury can occur. To raise the swing-away hopper, allow all grain to discharge from the auger, disengage the PTO and lockout the power source.
Page 19 LUBRICATION/MAINTENANCE GEARBOX IMPORTANT! Under working conditions oil will dissipate. Check oil in gearboxes periodically and maintain proper level. The gearboxes are shipped with oil. To check oil levels in the gearboxes, use the access doors in the side of the inlet hopper and spout (See Fig.
Page 21 LUBRICATION/MAINTENANCE (con’t.) BALL BEARING MAINTENANCE The main auger head bearing is a self-aligning, sealed ball bearing, which has been packed at the factory and requires no further lubrication. There is no adjustment to be made to the bearing, but check that it is firmly fastened. Also check that the setscrews securing the lock collar to the shaft are tight.
Page 22 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS HOUSING LAYOUT Choose an area on open, level ground accessible to chain hoist or other lifting devices where the auger may be laid out in full length. Arrange the tube sections in their approximate position (See Fig. 1 below). For ease of assembly, place the tubes on stands or saw horses.
Page 23 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS TRACK ASSEMBLY 1. Once all sections have been assembled, verify the ends of the tubing sections are tight against each other and snug up the connecting bands, see Page 24 for tightening connecting band procedures (the tube ends may not be completely square with one another, there may be a gap at the top and none at the bottom, or vice versa.
Page 26
Page 24 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS TRACK ASSEMBLY (con’t.) 3. Snug up all the track bolts and verify that the tracks are running straight (it may be necessary to loosen the connecting bands a little to help with alignment of the track). Once the tracks are in line, check to make sure the tube ends beneath the connecting bands are still touching each other, then tighten all track hardware.
Page 25 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS INLET ASSEMBLY 1. Remove and retain the eight (8) nuts securing the chain guard to the hopper, and remove the guard (for ease of assembly, the guard will be reinstalled at a later time once the chain and PTO driveline has been installed). 2.
