Sharpen your woodturning tools like a PRO! Used with your 6" or 8" bench grinder, this System includes the basic set-up
for putting perfect, sharp edges on gouges, chisels and scrapers. Set includes:
A - Locking Base Assemblies (2)
B - Long V-Arm
C - Short 90 degree Platform Arm
D - Tool Rest Platform for Short Arm
E - Adjustable Lever Handle
F - Mounting Screws (6)
MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
To maintain accuracy between your grinder and the Pro
Sharpening System, both units need to be securely bolted
down on your workbench, or piece of plywood. The Bases
(A) will be mounted directly under the grinding wheels and
guards, so it may be necessary to raise the grinder with a
plywood platform. The center of the grinding wheel needs
to be 5 1/4 to 5 1/2" inches above the top of the Locking
Base Assemblies.
- Center the Bases' diamond shaped receiving holes for
the Arms (B & C) under the grinding wheels. Figure 1. The
two cam-locking Handles on each of the bases should be
facing away from the grinder.
- The front of the Bases should be aligned with the front of
the grinding wheels. Figure 2.
- NOTE: the Grinder and Bases should be positioned as
close as possible to the edge of the mounting board, or
bench, to allow proper adjusting of the Arms. Once set, 6
Screws (F) are provided to mount the bases in place.
ADJUSTMENTS & USE
The Sharpening System gives two ways to sharpen tools:
- With the Long Arm (B) that includes a 'V' Holder on its end.
- With the Short 90 degree Arm (C) and adjustable Tool Rest Platform (D).
Each Arm has a retaining screw at its end (parts list #16). These screws can
be removed to allow the arms to be removed from the bases, and quickly
switched for use on the right or left wheels of the grinder.
Long Arm with 'V' Holder
This jig makes sharpening roughing gouges, bowl gouges, spindle gouges and
curved bevel skews an easy task. Make sure that your grinder is turned off.
Simply position the handle of your turning tool in the 'V' rest and adjust the Long Arm
in-or-out from the Base until the bevel of your tool fully rests on the grinding wheel.
Figure 3. Lock the arm in place with the 2 handles. Lift the tool from the grinding
wheel, turn the grinder on and then lightly touch the tool on the rotating grinding
wheel. Inspect where the grinding marks are on your tool's bevel. Adjust the long arm
in-or-out to position the tool to grind the bevel where you desire.
