Important safety instructions

To reduce the risk of burns, electrocution, fire, or injury to persons, read and follow these safety instructions before using your ghd rise.

Your ghd rise is for use only as a hairstyling aid, and only with appliances specifically designed for use with a heated hairstyling aid such as a heat resistant mat.

Handling your ghd rise
ghd rise contains high tech sensitive components therefore please ensure that the appliance is not dropped. Do not insert foreign objects, paint, burn or disassemble your ghd rise.

Do not use your ghd rise if it has been damaged – for example if the casing is cracked. If your appliance is damaged through misuse or abuse, this will to be covered under your guarantee. Jemella Ltd will replace the product free of charge only if it is within warranty. This does not affect your statutory rights.

This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards responsible for their safety. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.

BURN HAZARD: Keep appliance out of reach from children, particularly during use and during cool down after use.

When the appliance is connected to a power supply never leave it unattended.

Always place the ghd rise down using the built-in safety stand, on a heat resistant, stable flat surface.

ghd rise is not suitable for use with synthetic hair or wigs.


keep away from water

Do not use this device eproducedin a bathtub, shower, or water filled reservoir.

  1. When the appliance is used in a bathroom, unplug it after use since the proximity of water presents a hazard even when the appliance is switched off.
  2. For additional protection, the installation of a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA is advisable in the electric circuit supplying the bathroom. Ask your installer, or a qualified electrician, for advice.
  3. Do not reach for the for the appliance if it has fallen into water.
  4. Do not spray or apply wet styling aids directly onto the ghd rise.


electricity

As with most electrical appliances, electrical parts are electrically live even when the switch is off.

To reduce the risk of electrocution:
Never operate this appliance if it is not working properly, or if it has a damaged power cord or plug. If the power cord or plug is damaged, it must be replaced by Jemella Ltd.

  1. Only use with 110–240V, 50-60 Hz power supply.
  2. The appliance should never be left unattended when plugged in.
  3. Keep the power cord away from heated surfaces. Do not wrap the power cord around the appliance. Do not hang the ghd rise by the power cord.
  4. Always unplug the ghd rise immediately after using.
  5. Do not use an extension power cord with this appliance.
  6. Do not use a voltage inverter or generator with this appliance.
  7. Your ghd product is a class II electrical appliance and should not be connected to an earth connection.


hot surfaces

The ghd rise barrel is hot for effective styling.

To reduce the risk of burns:


  1. the ghd hot brush heats up quickly, so don't touch the bristles as they can get hot!
  2. When not styling always lay the ghd rise on a flat heat-resistant surface such as a ghd heat mat.
  3. When styling is complete, always switch off the ghd Rise and unplug it from the power supply.

  4. while the appliance is cooling down do not touch the bristles or barrel.
  5. Wait for the appliance to cool before storing.
  6. When your ghd Rise has cooled, fold the power cord in the same way as it was first delivered in its packaging. Do not wind it around your hand or the barrel or handle of the ghd rise as this can lead to early failure of the power cord.

Operation

Ensure that hair is completely dry before using the ghd rise appliance.

If tangling occurs, switch off the hot brush before detangling hair.

  1. Plug the ghd rise into the power supply. The ghd rise will momentarily flash around the ON/OFF switch to indicate that it is connected to a power supply and is in standby mode.
  2. To turn on the ghd rise, press and hold the ON/OFF button for at least 1 second. The ghd rise will play a short start-up tune and a light will pulse to indicate that the device is heating up.

  3. the ghd rise reaches the required temperature in seconds, so be careful not to touch the hot appliance barrel or bristles! Once the ghd rise has reached temperature, it will bleep and the light will remain illuminated to indicate that it is ready to use.
  4. When you have finished your styling session, press and hold the ON/OFF button for more than 2 seconds to turn the appliance off. A shut down tune will play to indicate the appliance has been turned off. Once turned off, it is best practice to unplug the appliance from the mains electricity and allow it to cool in a safe place. For safe cooling place the appliance on a ghd heat resistant mat using the built-in safety stand and allow to cool.


while the appliance is cooling down do not touch the barrel or bristles, or allow children or those with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge to touch the appliance whilst it is cooling.

Your ghd rise is not only attractive to you but also to your children.

Please ensure you always store your ghd styler out of reach of children, particularly during use, especially when cooling.

ghd rise has the following safety features:

  1. Sleep mode: If the ghd rise has been left on and has not been used for 30 minutes, a safety feature will automatically turn the hot brush off. The hot brush will play the sleep mode tune, the barrel will start to cool and the light will slowly pulse till the barrel reaches a safe temperature.
    1. To restart the appliance while it is in sleep mode, simply turn it on by pressing and holding down the ON/OFF button for more than 1 second.
    2. Note that although ghd rise is turned off, it is still connected to the mains and should be unplugged from mains electricity at the earliest opportunity.
  2. Protect Mode: The ghd rise can protect itself against adverse events or power fluctuations, for safety the heaters will turn off, the ghd hot brush will emit a bleep and the light will flash white every five seconds. If this occurs un-plug and re-plug at the power supply and then re-start.
  3. Fail safe: In the unlikely event of a control system error, for safety the heaters will turn off, the ghd rise will emit bleeps and the light will flash red every five seconds. If this occurs un-plug and re-plug at the power supply and re-start. If the unit does not re-start or the problem persists, contact ghd Customer Service for advice.

User maintenance instructions

Cleaning your ghd rise

  1. Unplug ghd rise from the mains power supply.
  2. Always allow ghd rise to cool before attempting to clean it.
  3. Never immerse the appliance in water.
  4. Wipe the handle and barrel of the appliance with a damp cloth. Do not use sharp or abrasive detergents or corrosive products.
  5. Remove all hair from in between the bristles after every usage. Wipe clean any build-up of styling products with a damp cloth or soft brush (do not scrub) from both bristles and heater plate.

Storage

  1. Always allow your ghd rise to cool down before storing away.
  2. When the appliance has cooled down, fold the power cord in the same way as it was first delivered in its packaging. Do not wrap the supply cord around the appliance as this can strain the cord and cause premature supply cord failure.

Failure to operate

Your ghd styling appliance is a high performance product and if the unit is subjected to large fluctuation in mains power during use it may go into fail-safe mode to protect the unit from damage. Therefore, in the unlikely event that your ghd appliance does not operate correctly, check that your ghd appliance and mains power supply are switched on, and that power is available. If your product stops working and the red fault light flashes, please follow the procedure below:

  1. Switch off the unit
  2. Unplug the unit from the plug socket
  3. Wait for 5 seconds and then plug the unit back into the wall
  4. Switch the unit back on

If this occurs repeatedly, please contact your local ghd service centre.

For UK plugs, please ensure that the fitted fuse is intact and functioning; if it is not replace it with an identically rated British Standard Fuse.
