About these guidelines The purpose of these application guidelines is to provide guidance in the application of Copeland scroll digital receiver HLR units (or HLR units). They are intended to answer the questions raised while designing, assembling and operating a system with these products.
1.3 General instructions WARNING Pressurized system! Serious personal injuries and/or system breakdown! Accidental system start before complete set-up must be avoided. Never install a system in the field and leave it unattended when it has no charge, when it has a holding charge, or with the service valves closed, without locking out the system electrically.
Product description 2.1 General information about Copeland scroll digital receiver HLR units Copeland has developed the Copeland scroll digital receiver HLR units to meet the refrigeration market demands for compact solutions at highest efficiency levels. These units allow continuous capacity modulation from 10 to 100 % and can be combined with various condenser concepts.
It is essential that the glide of refrigerant blends be carefully considered when adjusting pressure and superheat controls. Oil recharge values can be taken from Copeland scroll compressors brochures or Copeland Select software available at www.copeland.com/en-gb. Units HLR13* & HLR31*...
Single-compressor units are equipped with: ▪ dual pressure switch with automatic reset Copeland Flow Controls PS2-W7A; ▪ electronic unit controller Copeland EC2-552 with HP and LP pressure transmitters. Tandem-compressor units are equipped with: ▪ single low-pressure switch with automatic reset Copeland Flow Controls PS1-W3A;...
Cut-in point: 22 bar PT5 Pressure transmitter from Copeland Flow Controls HLR units are equipped with HP and LP pressure transmitters, connected to the Copeland EC2-552 electronic unit controller – see section 2.8 "Electronic controller – Copeland EC2-552". A PT5-30M pressure transmitter from Copeland Flow Controls is used at the high-pressure part of the system.
2.7.9 Oil separator OSH from Copeland Flow Controls The OSH-407 oil separator from Copeland Flow Controls is fitted as standard on the two smaller tandem- compressor HLR units. The two larger tandem-compressor HLR units are equipped with the OSH-411 oil separator.

100 % if the system requires less than the maximum capacity. In that case F3 > F2. NOTE: For more information about the EC2-552 controller, please contact the Application Engineering department at Copeland. AGL_Unit_HLR_EN_Rev01...
High pressure! Injury to skin and eyes possible! Be careful when opening connections on a pressurized item. Copeland scroll digital receiver HLR units are delivered with a holding charge of neutral gas. Since these units are used with remote condensers, they should be located in such a place to prevent any dirt, plastic bag, leaves or papers from covering the condenser and its fins.
3.2 Connection access 3.2.1 Access to refrigeration components Suction line Discharge line Liquid line Figure 11: HLR 13-ZBD30KCE, HLR13-ZBD45KCE, HLR 13-ZBD58KCE & HLR13-ZBD76KCE Suction line Discharge line Liquid line Suction line Figure 12: HLR31-ZBDT60KCE, HLR31-ZBDT90KCE, HLR31-ZBDT114KCE & HLR31-ZBDT152K5E 3.2.2 Access door to electrical cabinet Use the supplied key to open and close the electrical cabinet door.
3.3 Refrigeration piping connections CAUTION Blockage! Compressor breakdown! Maintain a flow of oxygen-free nitrogen through the system at very low pressure during brazing. Nitrogen displaces the air and prevents the formation of copper oxides in the system. If allowed to form, the copper oxide material can later be swept through the system and block screens such as those protecting capillary tubes, thermal expansion valves, and accumulator oil return holes.
3.4 Electrical connections 3.4.1 Power supply connections The electrical connection of the scroll digital receiver HLR unit to the power supply must be made by qualified technicians in compliance with valid electrical standards, for instance DIN EN 60204-1. The electrical diagrams are located inside the electrical connection cabinet. Auxiliary relay K10 Contactor K1 Transformer T1...
▪ Compressors ZB(D)30KCE, ZB(D)45KCE & ZBD58KCE: IP21 according to IEC 34. ▪ Compressors ZB(D)57KCE & ZB(D)76K5E: IP54 according to IEC 34. ▪ HP/LP and LP safety pressure switches (Copeland FlowControls PS2 and PS1): IP44 according to EN 60529/IEC 529. ▪ HP safety pressure switch PS3 with cable assy: IP65 according to EN 175301-803/IEC 529.
NOTE: The oil level should be approximately halfway up the sight glass. Copeland recommends charging the unit with one of the following oil types: ▪ Emkarate RL 32 3MAF ▪ Mobil EAL Artic 22 CC Charging is done through the Schraeder valve located on the suction Rotalock valve.
▪ Check that the electrical panel is closed. ▪ After starting-up and operation conditions are stabilised, Copeland recommends to check the oil level in compressor(s) and if needed to add oil to ensure a sufficient oil level (halfway up the sight glass).
− EN 378-2: Refrigerating systems and heat pumps - Safety and environmental requirements - Part 2: Design, construction, testing, marking and documentation. ▪ The Copeland HLR units and their associated spare parts and accessories comply with the Directive RoHS 2011/65/EU, (EU) 2015/863 on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (recast).
