The following instruction manual is to be used for the purposes of inspecting, installing and performing maintenance on Valmetal products. Each manual is specific to its product. Throughout this manual, pay attention to safety warnings and notes that will assist you in performing various maintenance tasks.
Solids produced can be composted for sale or, in the case of dairies, reused as bedding material for cows. Valmetal designed the heavy duty 12” x 8’ inclined screw press to have the same functionally as the traditional screw press but produce a finished product that is significantly drier with more control of the dryness of the dewatered solids.
However, the qualitative instructions below provide a quick reference for the processes of installation of the screw press. You may also contact your dealer or Valmetal for more information. NOTE Contact your dealer or Valmetal for more information.
NSTALLING HOPPER DIAPHRAGM SWITCH The diaphragm switch on the screw press is usually interlocked to the separator control panel. If the screw press hopper is too full, it will shut off the feed pump to the separator system temporarily. This allows the screw press to clear out prior to resuming normal operation, preventing the hopper from overflowing.
Prior to adjusting the air pressure in the control panel of the screw press, it is recommended to contact Valmetal or your dealer. 6. Power the compressor and check for any air leaks leading to the regulated door valve assembly.
HECKING After installing the screw press with the separator system and connecting associated plumbing, you will want to check that the screw press is running without pulling excess amps (running above motor specifications). Check the press motor amp draw as follows: 1.
Figure 4, Screw press discharge greasing location EARBOX Maintenance on the gearbox of the screw press consists of routinely changing the oil. Reference Safety Decals on the screw press or reach out to your local Valmetal representative to be provided with the appropriate Lubrication Manual DOC-20-051.

& B NSPECTION OF EARINGS EARING OUSING The front and rear bearings are attached to each end of the screw auger. The bearings center the screw auger inside the dewatering screens and may undergo wear over a period due to the thrust generated by the screw auger.
Loose Set Collar Damaged Coupler Insert Figure 7, Damaged drive coupling due to a loose set collar 1. To inspect the coupling, remove the safety guard covering the coupling assembly and bearing. 2. If the coupling assembly appears to have slid out of place, exposing the blue coupling insert, inspect the insert for damage and order a replacement if necessary.
If during inspection it is discovered that the tunnel press screen requires replacement, then proceed with the following procedure to remove it: 1. If not already done during inspection, remove the side panels covering the tunnel press screen section of screw press. Clean the screens per procedure outlined in the Cleaning Dewatering Screens &...

c. Set the gearbox and motor in designated area and remove the lifting chain. d. If needed, remove the set screw connecting the coupler to the shaft of the gearbox and remove coupler. 3. If the motor requires replacement or repair, connect a lifting chain to the ring on the motor and lightly lift the motor using a crane, hoist, or lift to prevent the motor from falling when detaching from the gearbox.
Hanger Hardware Bearing Hanger Set Collar Bearing Hardware Figure 9, Front bearing hanger removal The auger screw (depending on size) can be very heavy and will likely take NOTE more than one person, or a forklift to remove. Do not attempt to remove on your own.
EALS After the auger screw is reinstalled, the seals inside the seal housing(s) will need to be replaced. Purchase replacement seals only from your dealer or Valmetal. Using standard seals may result in decreased performance and seal or auger life.
NSTALLATION OF EARINGS Once the auger screw and seal housing have been installed, you may proceed with installation of the front and rear bearings. 1. Slide rear bearing onto shaft, bottom out bearing against seal housing(s) and bolt in place. Bearing Hanger Assembly Tap Set Collar groove...

NOTE shims may be needed between the flanges of the tunnel press screens. Contact your dealer or Valmetal for assistance. 5. Retighten all the hardware loosened to adjust alignment. 6. Install the side panels that cover the tunnel press screen section of screw press.
0.040" shims are available. Whether for Sumitomo or Rossi reducer, install these shims directly on the frame (see Figure 13). For additional information, request service bulletin SB22-015 from your dealer or Valmetal service dept. 10. Using a pry-bar to adjust the gearbox-side coupler, interlock the gearbox-side and auger-side HD couplers and insert.
The use of an impact wrench is only recommended to loosen the bolts. The use of a torque wrench is recommended for tightening all assemblies with molded parts. Valmetal assumes no responsibility for damage resulting from over-tightening of a bolt or nut.
