Charging Precautions

Charging the vehicle
Charging safety
Before attempting to charge the vehicle, make sure you read and understand the following information

Inspect sockets, plugs and cables for damage before using charging equipment. DO not use any equipment that shows signs of misuse or damage.

Always make sure that any excess water is removed from the port area, before connecting a charging device.

Avoid connecting the charger during to torrential rain or storms. If excessive water is evident around the charging port, use a suitable cloth to dry the area before removing the waterproof banking plugs and connecting the charging cable.

Do not touch the charging connector or charging plug, when your hand is wet.

Stop charging immediately if you notice anything abnormal such as sparks, burning or smoke.

Always hold the charging connector handle or plug when connecting or removing the charging cable to avoid damage to the internal wiring in the cable. Damage, such as this, may lead to electric shock or fire. Be careful not to drop the charging connector, as this could also lead to damage.

High voltage charging equipment can cause interference with electronic medical devices. When using medical electrical device s such as pacemakers, please consult your doctor about whether charging your electric vehicle will impact the operation of the device. In some instances, electromagnetic waves that are generated from the charger, can seriously impact medical device operation.

it is strongly recommended that you use a slow charging method under usual circumstances. Where possible, avoid constant or regular use of rapid chargers.

Do not s tart the vehicle during the charging process.

When charging has finished, switch off the charger (where the option is available), disconnect the cable from the vehicle, fit the waterproof blanking plug(s) and close the charging port door. Where applicable, disconnect the cable from the charging device.

Always keep the charging connect or and charging plug clean and dry. Store your charging cable somewhere where there is no water or moisture present.

Only use the correct charger for charging the electric vehicle. Using any other charger or connector configuration may cause failure.

Charging Advice

  • When the State Of Charge (SOC) indicator bar is lower than 20% - or enters the red area – it indicates that the power battery is getting low on charge. It is therefore recommended that you charge your vehicle as soon as possible when the power drops to the red warning area, to ensure you have sufficient power to drive your vehicle. It is not recommended to wait until the power is completely exhausted to charge the vehicle, otherwise the long-term service life of the power battery could be affected.
  • The vehicle will reduce in available power output, once the SOC reaches below 10%.
  • To maintain the longevity of the power battery, it is recommended to use slow charging facilities at least once a month (utilising AC charging 7.2kWh or below), to fully charge the power battery. For higher mileage users, it would be recommended to complete this process more frequently.
  • When you need to unplug the charging gun, end the charging session first, unlock the vehicle, and remove the charging gun. (Note: when using a domestic 3-pin 'plug-in' charger, the charger needs to be powered off first). If the charging session is unable to be stopped, refer to the last pages.
  • Whilst the vehicle is charging, the 12-volt auxiliary battery is also charged. Once the power battery SOC reaches 100%, the 12-volt auxiliary battery charging will no longer be maintained. If any electrical equipment is turned on during the charging process, this will drain the 12-volt auxiliary battery once the power battery is fully charged. Ensure you turn off all electrical equipment whilst charging, to ensure that there is sufficient power in the 12-volt auxiliary battery to start your vehicle.
  • During the charging process, if any abnormal situation or errors occur, s to p the charging process immediately and contact your local IA Dealer or Authorised Repairer for advice/assistance.

Charging

Charging

The slow charging and fast charging ports are located on the right side of the vehicle, behind the charging port cover on the B pillar

Type-2 Charging (Slow charging)

  • The rated power of AC slow charging is 3KW or 7KW, depending on the type of charger
  • AC up to 6.6kW 0-100% charge in c.6 hours
  • Type 2 charging cable supplied with vehicle

CCS Charging (Fast charging)

  • The rated power of DC fast charging is up to 40kW depending on the type of charger
  • DC 40kW 0-80% charge in c.60 minutes
  • DC 40kW 0-100% in c.90 minutes

Charging Port Connections

After charging, make sure to refit the waterproof blanking plugs. Fit the blanking plug to the DC socket first, followed by the AC stock.

The charging port is located on the drivers side of the vehicle adjacent to the lower part of the door opening.
Charging Port Connections

The charging port has 2 types of socket:

  1. AC charging socket
  2. DC charging socket

information NOTE: To use both AC and DC charging sockets, the waterproof blanking plugs must be removed.

Preparing the vehicle for charging

To prepare the vehicle for charging:

  1. Make sure the parking brake is applied
  2. Turn off the vehicle and remove the ignition key
  3. Wait at least ten seconds before connecting a charging cable.

Connecting a charging cable

To connect a charging cable:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the wall box or charging device.

information NOTE: The vehicle is supplied with a Type-2 charging cable located in a storage bag behind the passenger's seat.

information NOTE: Cables may be pre-tethered to the charging port when using some charging stations.

  1. Connect the charging cable to the vehicle using the applicable charging socket

information NOTE: When using a public charging station, follow any instructions on the charging port.

Cell balance-charging

Carrying out a complete AC slow charging cycle will enable the high voltage battery to carry out a cell balance charge.

Cell -balance charging assists in extending the service life of the high voltage battery. To enable a cell -balance charge cycle, the charger output mus t not exceed 7kW

During Charging

During Charging

With the required charging connector inserted into the charging port, the instrument cluster will illuminate indicating several symbols identifying a successful charge cycle has began

  • The Charging connection indicator, will illuminate Red
  • The Battery status indicator, will illuminate Yellow and flash, (this will turn Green when charge is 100%, or Red if there is a fault detected)
  • The entire instrument cluster will illuminate as shown
  • The HV current gauge (1) will display a negative value number:
    • Slow charging between -6 to -30A,
    • Fast Charging between -10 to -120A, (A=Amps)
  • The Voltage indicator (2) will slowly increase as the charge increases (v=Volts)
  • The SOC status bars and percentage (3) will increase to 100% once fully charged.
  • When charging is complete, the vehicle will automatically end charging.

To Stop A Charging Cycle

During charging the ability to remove the charging connector is inhibited, the connector will be locked in place until charging is complete, or if a power disruption occurs.

  • To end a charging cycle during charging, insert the key into the ignition, and turn to Start (Cranking) position
  • Hold the key in the START position for 5 seconds
  • The charging current will drop to 0A
  • You can also stop the charge from the charging station by following the manufacturer's instructions
  • The charge connector can now be removed
  • Once removed, refit the waterproof blanking plugs and lock the charging port.

Emergency Cable Release

Emergency Cable Release - Step 1

Should the cable remain 'locked' and fail to release on completion of the charging operation, you can release it by:

  • Releasing the retaining clips and raise the driver's seat base to access the rear of the charging socket assembly.
  • Locating the red coloured emergency release tab and pressing it in a downwards direction – this should not require force. If the release tab does not move easily, or the cable is still 'locked' with the tab pushed down, contact your breakdown provider for assistance.
  • Do not use excessive force to try and remove the cable or operate the emergency release lever

Once the lever has been pressed, you should be able to remove the charging cable. When the vehicle's central locking is next operated, the charging cable lock should reset.
Emergency Cable Release - Step 2

High voltage cables may be exposed when accessing certain vehicle components. Tampering with the high voltage system can cause severe burns or electric shock, which may result in serious injury or death. High voltage cables and connectors are coloured orange for identification purposes.
