  • Page 6 911 GT3 High-speed concept The maximum engine speed has been raised to 8200 rpm to increase the gear- dependent perf ormance in the lower and medium speed range (1st to 4th gear). In 5th and 6th gear it is 8000 rpm. Improv ed v ehicle acceleration was achieved through the respectiv e transmission ratios.
  • Page 7 911 GT3 Fuel supply The 911 GT3 has a f uel system with a return line from the pressure regulator on the engine to the fuel tank. A sucking jet pump f eeds the fuel to the main pump. The f uel pump (in the tank) f eeds the fuel along the inlet line and through the f uel f ilter Please ref er to the technical manual to the injection valv es.
  • Page 8 911 GT3 ORVR system USA models have a system whereby the fuel vapours occurring during ref uelling of the v ehicle are directed into the activated charcoal filter. ORVR stands for: On-board Ref ueling Vapor Recovery System, i.e. an (On-board) sy stem, fitted into the vehicle, whereby during refuelling (Ref ueling) the f uel v apours (Vapor) are recovered (Recovery ).
  • Page 9 911 GT3 Function When ref uelling the v ehicle, a reed contact (9), fitted in the f uel f iller neck below the sealing f lap, which is opened by the filling nozzle, is switched. This applies positiv e potential to the ORVR v alve (6) and to the fresh-air v alve (11). As these v alves are permanently connected to earth, they open.
  • Page 10 911 GT3 2839 Hall sensor and camshaft rotor A modif ied rotor is f itted to the intake camshafts of both cylinder banks. Using the rotor position, the Hall sensor determines the current position of the inlet camshaft 4 times per camshaft rev olution and relays this v alue to the DME control unit. This determines precisely the position of the inlet camshafts.
  • Page 11 911 GT3 Intake system The air is drawn in v ia the air cleaner, it f lows through the connected hot f ilm air mass f low sensor and after the throttle control unit is distributed via a distribution pipe into the two air collection chambers. Straight suction pipes lead f rom the air collection chambers to the inlet ports.
  • Page 12 911 GT3 In ov errun condition, the gearshift speed is 4960 rpm and 2120 rpm. The gearshift speed is changed depending on the intake-air temperature to achiev e optimum induction. If intake air is hot, the gearshift speed is raised (by max. 10% at + 60 °C), if intake air is cold, it is reduced (by max.
  • Page 13 E-Throttle can be found in the Corporate dependent accelerator pedal trav el characteristic. This characteristic (the correlation Porsche Academy. between engine torque and accelerator pedal position) is determined entirely by the E-Throttle f unction and is independent of the engine’s operating state. • Page 14 911 GT3 Actuation of the v alve takes place via a pulse-width-modulated square-wav e signal. The v oltage is switched between 0 v olts and 12 v olts in 4ms cycles (250 Hz), while the proportion of switch-on and switch-off time is changed. A control current adjusts itself according to this proportion, which sets the piston position in the solenoid hy draulic valv e and thereby releases the different oil lines, facilitating a crankshaft angle adjustment range of 0°...

  • Page 16 911 GT3 Exhaust system The exhaust system is a 2-stream arrangement, i.e. the exhaust f low of the left and right cy linder banks is separate. Each exhaust system branch has an oxygen sensor fitted up- and downstream of the catalytic converter (double stereo oxygen sensor control).
  • Page 17 911 GT3 Theref ore, they are more compact, hav e a more active surf ace for pollutant conver- sion and reach the operating temperature for exhaust emission control sooner dur- ing the warm-up phase. Additionally, heating of the catalytic conv erters after a cold start is improved through secondary air injection.
  • Page 18 911 GT3 Oxygen sensing The 911 GT3 has stereo oxygen sensing with 2 oxygen sensors per cylinder bank. Each cylinder bank has one oxygen sensor upstream and one oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic conv erter. The Motronic uses the signal of the oxy gen sensor upstream of the catalytic conv erter to control the f uel/air mixture.
  • Page 19 911 GT3 The sensor element of the oxygen sensor LSF is made up of ceramic sheets and has the f orm of a rectangular waf er with rectangular cross section. The individual f unction lay ers (electrodes, protective layers, etc.), are produced with screen print- ing technique.
