WHEN SELECTING AND ISSUING A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE THERAPIST TO
CARRY OUT A RISK ANALYSIS ON ITS USE.
- Condition of the sling MUST be inspected and assessed by a competent individual and found suitable
BEFORE EACH LIFT!
- DO NOT use the sling for lifting anything other than humans
- DO NOT allow children to play with the sling at any time
- THE SLING IS NOT TO BE USED BY UNTRAINED PEOPLE
WARNING: Before every lift visually inspect the sling's structual integrity. If there is any
sign of damaged fabric or stitching DO NOT use the sling!
WARNING!
- Each of the points attaching the sling to the hoist MUST be checked for security before each lifting operation
- DO NOT USE if there is any concern about the security of the fixing to the hoist
- Check all sling clips for signs of structural damage, fatigue or general material degradation - IF IN DOUBT - DO
NOT USE and immediately remove from service
- Should you find a condition of which you are unsure, the sling should be withdrawn from use and returned to
the manufacturer for appraisal and load testing
- It is important to ensure that there are no folds or creases in the sling material
- Discolouration may indicate fabric degradation and may indicate the need for a load test
- Use of bleach may harm the structure of the sling. The sling should only be cleaned in the recommended way
- Increased vigilance is required, as with the introduction of any new equipment, to detect any signs of
pressure related problems
- The client should be regularly reassessed to ensure that the sling is still appropriate
- ANY SERIOUS INCIDENT THAT OCCURS IN RELATION TO THE DEVICE SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE
MANUFACTURER & COMPETENT AUTHORITY OF THE MEMBER STATE IN WHICH THE USER AND/OR PATIENT
IS ESTABLISHED
It is not recommended for the user to remain in a sling when also gaining comfort from a pressure-relieving
cushion, as any material which is introduced between a user and a pressure-relieving cushion can reduce the
effectiveness of the cushion.
It is therefore recommended, that the slings are rolled back from under the thighs and eased up the client's
back, clear of the sacral area. It is also important to ensure that there are no folds or creases in the sling
material. Increased vigilance is required, as with the introduction of any new equipment; to detect any signs
of pressure related problems.
This procedure is the same for both leg and shoulder pick-up points. ALL straps should be
tucked away to prevent entanglement with other objects. Please ensure that each
sling clip is under tension at the start of the lift and before hoisting the client
clear of their support i.e. bed, chair etc.
