Control Panel
Data Set Ready light - On when DSR (Data Set Ready) signal is present.
Power/fault light - Indicates power is on and printer is ready. Flashing indicates an error condition.
Font lights - Indicate font selection. For manual selection, light that is on indicates the selected font. For host
selection, all lights will be on except the selected font.
Font Select key - At initial power on, press to cycle through the five font selections.
Auto/Manual key - Out position (Auto) allows host control over print mode. Depress position (Manual) allows
user to select print mode using the Letter/Draft key.
Letter/Draft key - In the Manual mode, out position selects letter quality print mode, depressed position selects
draft print mode.
Normal/Self Test key - Offline, out position selects Normal mode, depressed position selects Self Test mode.
On Line/Off Line key - Out position selects online mode, depressed position selects offline mode. Print data is
not lost when the printer is switched offline unless the self-test mode is selected.
Set Top of Form key - Offline, with paper in desired position, press to set top-of-from.
Local Form Feed (Reset) key - Offline, press to advance paper to the next top-of-from. Hold down while turning
on power to reset to factory default conditions. Press to reset clearable fault conditions.
Self-test
Internal Self-test
1. With paper loaded and the printer offline, press Normal/Self Test
key to the depressed position.
2. Printer will print a status sheet with firmware version, configuration
switch settings, and selectable features.
3. Press Local Form Feed key to start test 1. The printout will be a
continuous ASCII test pattern.
4. Press Local Form Feed key to stop test 1 and start test 2. The
printer will print a sequence of test characters.
5. Press Local Form Feed key to stop test 2 and start test 3. Test 3
moves the print carriage to each print position and advances paper,
but does not print.
6. Press Local Form Feed key again to terminate the self-test.
Printer will again print a status page and leave self-test.
I/O Loopback Test
1. With paper loaded and the printer power off, plug in the loopback
connector (furnished with printer) replacing the serial cable
connection.
2. Turn on printer power and press On Line/Off Line key to take
printer offline.

3. Press Normal/Self Test down to the Self Test condition. Printer
will print status sheet of step 2 "Internal Self-test" above.
4. Press Set Top of Form key. Printer runs a baud rate test and
prints a pass or fail message. After about one minute, the printer will
run a data communication test and print all characters.
5. Press Normal/Self Test key to end the test.
Printer Configuration
Storing print features
DIP switch SWA-8 acts as a printer configuration memory storage
lock. Several print features of the printer can be downloaded from
the host and then be stored permanently in the printers memory.
Features that can be downloaded and stored are: horizontal and
vertical tab, form length, horizontal and vertical pitch, horizontal and
vertical margins, paper alignment, paper width, answerback
message, character set, pitch mode, EOL control, new line request,
C1 receive and transmit. To change the stored features:
1. Reset the desired configuration, using the other DIP switches and
via downloading from the host.
2. Move SWA-8 from down position to up position.
