Connecting to the App To use the MiEye device, it must first be paired to an iOS device via the MiEye app. Once the device is charged, open the MiEye app. For a New Device: If the device is powered and within Bluetooth range, it should appear in the Nearby Devices list (4, 5).
Device Details Once a paired device is selected the Device Details screen is displayed. The device name is displayed at the top of the screen along with a button to return to the device list screen (1) The current battery status of the selected device is also displayed (2).
Live Mode When Live Mode is selected, if the device is not currently in Live mode you will be prompted to switch to Live mode. Moving the device to Live mode cancels other modes, including Log mode. Live Mode allows you to view the measured alpha-opic illuminances (1) in real-time.
Manual Mode When Manual Mode is selected, if the device is not currently in Manual mode you will be prompted to switch to Manual mode. Moving the device to Manual mode cancels other modes, including Log mode. Manual Mode allows you to take on-demand readings of the sensor and save them with a custom label.
Log Mode When the Device is in Log Mode sensor readings are performed periodically and saved to the internal storage of the device. This means reading can be taken without a phone/tablet being present. The onboard storage is large enough to store many weeks of data (exact timeframe is determined by the Log Rate, see section Device Settings below).

To Unpair the Device: Tapping the Unpair MiEye button (6) tells the device to delete the current Bluetooth Pairing information. This needs to be done before the device can be Paired to a different iOS device. After the Pairing is deleted the data for the device is also removed from the app.
Troubleshooting Resetting the device If the MiEye device is unable to be connected to in the App or is otherwise unresponsive, the device can be manually reset. This is done by first placing the MiEye in its charger. Then insert a small object such as a paperclip into the small hole next to the USB port.
To do this, open the Settings app on the iOS device and select Bluetooth. In the list of “My Devices” find the MiEye you are trying to connect to and tap on the icon, select “Forget This Device”.
Distributing devices to research participants We advise that participants NOT be directed to use the MiEye app, as they may disrupt the intended settings and accidentally stop data collection. We advise that a single lab iOS device is used for managing multiple MiEye devices.
