Installation Guide
OVERVIEW
Installation of XERIC heated rails is done in 2 stages. The transformer (sold separately) must be installed in an
accessible ventilated location with a 240V supply via an appropriate switch or timer (recommended). Provision must
be made for low voltage wires (supplied red & black wire) from the transformer to the top entry point (wall mounting) of
each rail, through a small hole (6mm) in the wall surface. Note: XERIC rails can be installed vertically or horizontally.
TRANSFORMER
• Install the transformer (sold separately) in an accessible, ventilated location - usually this is in the ceiling space above
• Make provision for a 240V supply to the transformer primary via a switch or a timer (recommended)
• Using the supplied 2 meter length of red & black wire, make provision from the transformer secondary to the to entry point of each rail
• Multiple rails must be wired in parallel whilst observing the maximum wattage of the transformer (5 rails maximum)
THIS PRODUCT IS DESIGNED TO HEAT OPTIMALLY WITH THE SUPPLIED 2 METER WIRE
It is not recommended to extend or shorten this wire - if you have to extend the wires then increase the wire gauge
HEATED RAILS
Install the heated rails as follows:
• Using the supplied double sided tape, stick the drilling templates on the wall by locating the small (6mm) hole over the protruding wires.
• Using the drilling template as a guide, drill holes in the wall surface (remove templates after)
• Loosen the 2 grub screws at the back of the rail and remove the 2 plastic caps
• Slide the rail partway off the aluminium backing strip past one of the wall mounts - NOTE: do not remove the rail completely.
• Using the supplied wall plugs & fasteners, screw the bottom wall mount to the wall
• Slide the rail downwards such that the top wall mount fixing point is exposed
• Screw the top wall mount to the wall
• Using the supplied bullet crimps, connect the element wires to the red and black supply wires
• Feed the looped end of the element wires into the rails
• Slide the rail upwards such that it is aligned with the aluminium backing strip
• Fit the 2 caps and tighten the grub screws from behind the rail
• Test - heating takes 30 minutes to reach full temperature (with a towel draped over).
Note: Non thermostatically controlled heated towel rails only heat to optimal temperature when covered with a towel.
Xeric Heated Rails
To ensure safety for young children, the bottom rail is at least 600mm from the floor.
