INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE – SCT-0808 – Balanced in-line orifice
COMPONENTS:
This assembly contains the following main components:
(1) U-shaped body with shaft. The shaft has a slotted and a 5mm hex side.
(2) Hose adaptor / inlet fitting.
(3) OPTIONAL pressure gauge assembly (sold separately).
The hose adaptor / inlet fitting has 2 threaded sides. The longer threaded side – with o-ring -
screws into the adjuster. The shorter threaded side connects with the low pressure
regulator hose.

  • Page 2 The pressure gauge assembly has 2 threaded sides. The longer threaded side – with locking nut - screws into the adjuster. The shorter threaded side connects with the low pressure regulator hose. Note: this fitting is illustrated below without the gauge, the gauge screw into the center hole.
  • Page 3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:  Depending on type of orifice that needs adjusting: slotted or hex, prepare your tool as follows: o If the slotted end is needed for adjustment, screw the hose adaptor / inlet fitting or gauge assembly onto the hex side. Finger tight will do, there is no need to use a spanner to tighten the connection as the shaft of the tool seals inside of the fitting.
  • Page 4 o If the hex end is needed for adjustment, screw the hose adaptor / inlet fitting or gauge assembly onto the slotted side. Finger tight will do, there is no need to use a spanner to tighten the connection as the shaft of the tool seals inside of the fitting.
  • Page 5  Connect the tool to an unpressurised low pressure hose which is in turn connected to the first stage. Remember that the first and second stages should be paired and set up / adjusted together. Finger tight will do, there is no need to use a spanner to tighten the connection as the hose end will seal with the inside of the fitting.
  • Page 6  Connect the second stage to the tool. We recommend the slotted or hex side to sit flush with the end of the tool prior to screwing the second stage onto the tool. Screw the regulator all the way down onto the tool. Finger tight will do, there is no need to use a spanner to tighten the connection as the shaft of the tool will seal with the inside of the regulator barrel.
  • Page 7 Gap of max 1 turn for alignment purposes  Pressurize the assembly. If leaks occur, the following are the most obvious causes and cures: o Leaky connections: turn of the air supply, depressurize and correct. o Shaft of the tool not engaged with the barrel of the regulator (iow. the adjuster is too far retracted): move the adjuster towards the orifice of the second stage.
  • Page 8  Once the adjustments are completed: o Retract the shaft just enough to disconnect the shaft from the orifice. Failure to do so might result in the orifice losing its position or setting once the tool gets disconnected. If the shaft is retracted too far back, this could result in air leakage from the tool –...
  • Page 9 o The gauge assembly is fully screwed into the tool until it bottoms out. If the positional relationship of the gauge assembly to the tool is not ideal or comfortable for tuning, the gauge assembly can be unscrewed for up to 1 turn in order to obtain a better alignment.
  • Page 10 o The locking nut locks the gauge assembly in position in relation to the tool and seats against the tool, not the gauge fitting. Finger tight will do, there is no need to use a spanner to tighten the locking nut as (1) the shaft of the tool will seal inside the gauge fitting and (2) the nut only serves the purpose of locking the assembly in the correct relationship.
  • Page 11 MAINTENANCE – TAKING CARE OF YOUR TOOL: The tool can be cleaned using a soft damp cloth. Do not use any detergents or chemical cleaning agents on any of the surfaces. Before storage ensure the tool is dry and store the tool in a dry environment. If over time the tool becomes a little stiff to operate, use a little lubricant (Christo-Lube®) on the 4 shaft o-rings.

SAFETY WARNINGS: This tool is only suitable for use with compressed low pressure air (maximum 15 bar). Do not use higher pressures or gas mixtures other than compressed air. When the unit is pressurised, disconnecting the tool from the regulator-inflator will result in a continuous air flow from the tool.

ADJUSTING DOWNSTREAM SECOND STAGES: CAUTION: Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations with regards to setting-up and tuning second stages. Each brand and regulator type will have their own specific settings and procedures. These procedures and setting values can be found in the manufacturer’s literature and must be adhered to in order to ensure the correct and safe operation of the regulator.
  • Page 14  Ensure proper cycling of both the first and second stage to ensure the soft- and hard seats are properly bedded in.  When adjusting second stages, the final goal is to: o Adjust the second stage for maximum lever height in order to allow for the maximum poppet-orifice separation that in turn will give the greatest flow through the second stage.
