System ™ Owner’s Guide Congratulations! We at CentraLite Systems, Inc. appreciate your selection of the CentraLite Elegance lighting control system. Your system should provide you with many years of trouble-free service. Please read this guide carefully. Table of Contents Page(s)
I. General Information The Elegance system is a centrally controlled home lighting system which allows you to control any light in your home or all of your lights from a single location. The operation of the system is very simple. Any switch that controls a single light or grouping of lights is called a load switch.
1. Master Control Panel (MCP) IMPORTANT NOTE: The Master Control Panel has no user-serviceable parts. It should be removed from the wall by authorized CentraLite service technicians only. It does not contain high-voltage electricity. The Master Control Panel (MCP) is the system’s brain. It may be installed in a master bedroom, closet, mechanical room, basement, or other desirable location.
CentraLite Systems for details. 5. Scene Control The CentraLite Elegance has standard scene control of up to 256 user-programmable scenes. All scenes are programmable by the installer or the homeowner, and may be changed at any time. A Scene is a way to turn on, off, or preset the dim level of any or all of the circuits on the system by pushing a single button.
Real-Time Clock Your Elegance system contains a real-time clock, which always knows the time and date. You may have Scenes which happen at certain times of the day. The clock will automatically take into account leap years and daylight savings time. Consult your dealer or the CentraLite factory for programming information.
IV. Owner’s Troubleshooting Guide CAUTION! CentraLite switches are safe, but other switches in your home may contain dangerous 115-Volt AC electricity. Therefore, be very careful when removing any switch cover plate. ymptom olution System is completely non-functional. Check the green panel light. If it is on, the system is getting power.

The MCP panel red LED will blink. Tap each of the switch buttons that control the circuit. If the problem persists, call your CentraLite Dealer, or call CentraLite directly. One or more sets of lights won’t work.
V. System Specifications The CentraLite Elegance system is a microprocessor-controlled centralized home lighting system. Maximum Number of Control Circuits Per MCP: 192 Power Input: Nominally 12-volts AC from a class II transformer Output to Relays: 5-volts DC (switched and phase controlled)

PC for programming. The CentraLite Elegance Configuration Software uses a familiar Windows environment for configuring and programming your Elegance system. Each Elegance Master Control Panel (MCP) can handle up to 48, 96 or 192 controlled loads (depending on controller) and 384 switch inputs. If more loads are needed, multiple controllers can be connected via RS-232.
Before you can communicate with the Elegance system, you must attach a straight-through RS-232 cable between the PC serial port (COM Port) and the Elegance programming port. You also need to know which COM Port setting is being used on the PC. Usually this is COM1. If you do not know which COM Port is being used, there is a setting to help you to detect the COM Port.
When you start the configuration program you will begin from the Main page. From the Main page you can open an existing customer file, connect to an Elegance system with RS-232, or connect with a modem. You can also jump to the other setup pages such as Loads, Inputs, Scenes or Clock.
Real Time Programming icon. This will help you identify loads that were not included in the Rough- In plan. You can also configure loads offline and send the settings to the Elegance system all at once. The Loads page layout is shown in Figure 3. On the right side is a set of 24 loads. This set of loads corresponds to one relay controller.
To set all load parameters at once you can select Global Parameters. Here you can select parameters for loads globally. The best time to do this is when you are first configuring an Elegance system. For example: If 95% of the loads in the home are dimmers, then you can set all loads to be dimmers from the start.
Low Voltage Relay Board (LVRB) (Figure 4) From the LVRB configuration page you can define controls by name and designate if it needs to be Press and Hold or Pulse. To designate Press and Hold or Pulse, select the radio button beside the corresponding action.

Switch over the Load you want to assign and drop it. The switch will now be assigned to that Load. This method is very useful when initially setting up a system in a home. One worker can operate the PC while another moves through the house identifying buttons and what they should control.
Scene Configuration (Figure 7) Before you begin programming Scenes, it is important to understand how Scenes work. When a Scene is activated, it dims a group of lights to different dim levels at independently programmed fade rates. This means that you can make lighting scenes as simple or as complex as you wish.

You see a representation of all the Loads on one relay controller.

The process of locating switches generally begins with a review of the home’s electrical plan. Using standard Ambiance or Elegance switches, up to 4 different switches may be installed in a single gang plate, and up to 8 may be installed in a double gang plate.
