East Beast Calibration and Tuning
*Before starting, turn on your East Beast and allow it to warm up for at least 15-20
minutes*
1) Calibrate DAC (optional)
A) Set voltmeter to measure DC voltage. Connect voltmeter to MIDI Pitch jack (black
lead connects to sleeve, red lead connects to tip). Alternate pressing the Oct - button
and the Osc Wave button until the voltmeter reads ~2V. Note the offset of the voltage
(such as 2.008V)
B) Press the Oct+ button 4 times and then press the Osc Wave button again. The
voltage should now read ~6V
C) Adjust the DAC trimpot so that this reading has the same offset as at 2V (in the
above example, 6.008V)
D) Go back down to 2V and note the new offset. Go back up to 6V and use the DAC
trimpot to match this offset
E) Continue this process until the voltage offsets at 2V and 6V are exactly the same
2) Calibrate TEMP (optional)
A) Leave black lead attached to sleeve of MIDI Pitch jack and touch red lead to TEMP1
point. Adjust TEMP trimpot until reading is 0.391V (or as close as possible to this
reading)
3) Tune Oscillator
A) Connect audio and tuner to Osc Out jack. Select Sine waveform. Set the Fine Tune
knob to slightly right of center (to allow for slight sharpening during final assembly and
heating). Select the C note corresponding to 2V from the DAC calibration step (press
Oct- several times, press Oct+ twice, then press Osc Wave. (You can confirm the 2V
setting with a voltmeter attached to the MIDI Pitch jack if needed)
B) Adjust the FREQ trimpot until the pitch of the note is C2 (~65.4 Hz)
C) As with the DAC calibration, press the Oct+ button 4 times and then press the Osc
Wave button. Note the tuning offset from C6 (it may be more than a semitone). Press
Oct- 4 times and then Osc Wave to go back down to C2.
D) At C2 adjust the PITCH trimpot to match the offset measured at C6. Then, adjust the
FREQ trimpot again to bring the pitch back to a perfect C2 (leave the Fine Tune knob
where it is) (Note: If the PITCH trimpot does not have the necessary range to tune
the oscillator, the TEMP trimpot may be slightly adjusted to bring the PITCH into a
usable range)
