MD77HRB 4 DESCRIPTION The MD77HRB is a rotating dial Compass Heading Repeater. It is designed to display Ship’s heading as part of a Gyro-Compass or Transmitting Magnetic Compass System, receiving data via a NMEA 0183 digital transmission. The MD77HRB has a dial of 118mm diameter marked in 1 degree increments with numeric values every 10 degrees plus cardinal and inter-cardinal markers.
MD77HRB 5 PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION The MD77HRB accepts serial azimuth data from a Gyro-Compass or Transmitting Magnetic Compass (TMC) in digital format using standard NMEA 0183 (IEC61162-1) True or Magnetic sentences. The input is processed by electronic circuitry contained within the Repeater enclosure, powered from 18 V to 32 V dc derived from the ship’s supply.
MD77HRB 6 APPLICATION The MD77HRB displays True or Magnetic Heading Data transmitted from NMEA 0183 (IEC 61162-1) compatible marine equipment (Gyro-Compass, TMC, EMC, GPS Compass etc.) The following NMEA 0183 sentences (in priority order) may be used to display Heading:...
Review the system cable conductors and their function. Identify the vessel’s wiring functions. It is recommended that a note be made of the vessel’s wiring functions for future reference. Connect the MD77HRB in accordance with table 9.3 - Pin Connections (by function).

Ensure that the installation complies with section 9 - Installation. Apply system power (24 V dc) to the MD77HRB. The MD77HRB Heading Repeater will initially align to 000° degrees; it will then adopt the heading which is being transmitted from the heading source.
MD77HRB 11 OPERATION 11.1 Operator Controls A. Back-lit Dial 000° - 359° B. Lubber Line C. Magnetic Heading Indicator (Yellow) D. True Heading Indicator (Blue) E. Rotary Dimmer Control Knob and Self-Test Button...
If the type of heading available changes from True to Magnetic or from Magnetic to True, the MD77HRB will automatically adjust to display the available Heading Type. If both True and Magnetic Heading data are available, True Heading will be displayed as a higher priority.
True and Magnetic Indicators will be illuminated. 11.5 Under Voltage Lock-out If the voltage of the power supply to the MD77HRB falls below a preset limit of 15 V, the operation of the MD77HRB is locked-out to prevent potential inaccurate display of heading.
12.1 Maintenance No scheduled maintenance is required. It is recommended to gently wipe away any accumulated dust periodically. Note: The MD77HRB is a sealed unit and has no user-serviceable parts inside. Breaking the factory seal will invalidate the warranty. 12.2 Fault-Finding 12.2.1...
