  • Page 6: Description Of The Eggnest™ Complete Shield

    The EggNest Complete Shield is a scatter radiation protection shielding system. The intended purpose of the EggNest Complete Shield is to protect healthcare workers that are behind the shield in the x-ray procedure room from scatter radiation during medical procedures employing imaging in the range of 70-100 keV energy levels [1].

    The Shield Fringe is a soft shielding component attached to the lower edge of the Shield Assembly to allow for conformance to patient anatomy. Shield Adapter The Shield Adapter is designed to attach the EggNest Complete Shield to a ceiling-mounted boom arm. This connector is attached to the boom arm using two 8mm shoulder bolts. Shield Handle The Shield Handle is designed to provide a location to grasp the Complete Shield and manipulate it into position.

    Step 2: Connect the EggNest Complete Shield to the Complete Shield Adapter The EggNest Complete Shield is lifted into place with the Adapter over the mating slot in the Complete Shield upper rail. Attach the Shield to the Adapter using the two included M6 stainless steel shoulder bolts with the included Loctite thread locking compound on the bolt threads.

    Step 3: Install the Complete Shield Handle on the Shield Assembly The Complete Shield Handle is attached to the Shield assembly using the two included M8 flat head screws, with the screws placed so that the heads are flush with the face of the assembly. Use the included Loctite thread locking compound on the bolt threads.

    Loading the Patient Prepare the EggNest Complete for patient loading as follows: Move the EggNest Complete Shield away from the patient loading area to provide room for the patient to be transferred to the patient table. Position the Shield in an area that is clear of any sterile preparation tables and position it for draping.

    Contact with the X-Ray System If the EggNest Complete Shield comes into contact with the x-ray tube housing or detector, do not push or otherwise force the system. Instead, move the table or x-ray gantry in order to disengage the system or move the Complete Shield away from the x-ray unit.

    Be sure to clean all surfaces in order to prevent transmission of infectious agents or biohazardous materials to staff or between patients. Product Disposal If the EggNest Complete is to be removed from service at the end of useful life, it must be returned to Egg Medical for disposal.
