OPERATION
![]()
This straightener must be used with its resin cartridge.
If you do not use the cartridge, the product's guarantee will no longer be valid.
Do not use the straightener on artificial hair (wigs, extensions...)
We recommend you use your straightener with its comb (F) so that the hair section is spread over the plate and as a result you obtain a perfect straightening from the roots to the ends.
PREPARATION
Resin cartridge
This straightener must be used with its resin cartridge. The straightener is fitted with a demineralisation cartridge which serves to filter out the fur. This cartridge contains a resin which changes colour as it progressively becomes worn out.
When it is new, it is green in colour. When it is worn out, it turns blue: when this happens it needs to be changed.
2 cartridges are delivered with the straightener. We advise you to always keep a spare cartridge at hand.
If your water is of medium hardness you should be able to use the cartridge for 6 months.
We advise you to keep your straightener's resin cartridge immersed so as to optimise its life span.
Should the resin dry out, it will go a yellow colour. In this case all you need to do is immerse it again for it to return to its original colour. The resin is made from polystyrene and can be thrown out with other household waste when the cartridge is worn out.
If you need to get a new resin cartridge please contact your l'Oréal Professionnel representative or retailer, or alternatively visit our accessories website: www.accessories.home-and-cook.com
How to fit the cartridge:
- Take the cartridge out of its sachet.
- Remove the red protective seal (fig. a) on the top of the cartridge.

Tank
Your straightener can be used with tap water.
Removing and filling the reservoir: Do not pour water directly into the reservoir when it is fitted to its base. Whenever you need to fill the reservoir you must first ensure that the cartridge is correctly in place in the reservoir, disconnect the reservoir from the base (moving it horizontally), lift the filling cap and fill the reservoir up to its maximum level.
Reposition the reservoir on its base (moving it horizontally) until you hear the click sound.

Do not use any additives in the reservoir
What water should I use
Your straightener has been designed to function using tap water.
Never use water which contains additives (starch, perfume, aromatic substances, softeners, etc.), nor water from batteries or condensation (for example water from clothes dryers, water from refrigerators, from air conditioning units or rain water).
This is because they contain organic waste or mineral elements which become concentrated under the effect of heat and cause cracklings, brown colours or the premature ageing of your straightener. If your water is very hard, we recommend you use a mixture 50% tap water and 50% demineralised water which you can get from the shops.
The straightener can be filled at any time.
It is important to always make sure that the level of water in the reservoir is above the minimum level indicated. If the water level is lower than the minimum level, then there will be no more steam coming out of the straightener and it won't work as well.
![Rowenta - L'OREAL Steam pod - Keeping the water level in tank above the minimum Keeping the water level in tank above the minimum]()
When using the straightener, you must be able to see steam coming out and hear the noise of the steam.
If you can't see any steam anymore and you can't hear the noise of the steam any longer either, this means that the reservoir needs to be filled up.
In this case, once you have filled the reservoir, you will need to wait for about 90 seconds before the steam starts coming out of the straightener again.
USING IT FOR THE 1st TIME
- Plug in the straightener.
To switch your straightener on: press continuously on the on/off button.
The LCD screen will then come on automatically.
![]()
- Select the ideal temperature for the type of hair you want to straighten using the + and – buttons:
Press the – button to reduce the temperature or the + button to increase it.
- It takes 90 seconds for the straightener to heat up.
Whilst it is heating up the temperature indicator of the straightener will flash.
- There are 5 temperature settings for you to choose from: 170-180-190-200-210°C (330-350-370-390-410°F).
- We advise you to observe the following recommendations:
Type of hair | Normal | Fragile | Very fragile |
Fine hair | 200°C - 390°F / 1 to 2 runs | 190°C - 370°F / 1 to 2 runs | 180°C - 350°F / 1 to 2 runs |
Normal hair | 210°C - 410°F / 1 to 2 runs | 200°C - 390°F / 1 to 2 runs | 190°C - 370°F / 1 to 2 runs |
Thick hair | 210°C - 410°F / 1 to 2 runs | 200°C - 390°F / 2 runs | 200°C - 390°F / 2 runs |
- When the temperature shown on the indicator stabilises and remains constant, this means that the temperature that you have chosen has been reached.
- After 5 seconds, the straightener will go into LOCK AUTO mode (a padlock symbol appears on the dial). This mode stops any ill effects occurring if you inadvertently press on a button you shouldn't have during use (for example pushing by mistake on the + /- buttons during use).
- If you wish to change the temperature of your straightener, you will have to unlock it:
To do this, press again for a few seconds on either the + button or the - button. The control is now unlocked and the padlock sign will disappear from the screen.
At any time you can exit the control by pressing continuously on the - or + buttons.
When you use your straightener for the very first time, keep the tong closed in your hand until the steam appears (it will take around 90 seconds for you to obtain steam the first time you use your straightener).
- Start the straightening by running the straightener once or twice along the hair section, depending on the type of hair (cf table below).
You must move the straightener slowly so that the steam can be spread correctly at the heart of the hair section.
HOW TO PROCEDE
The straightener has a mobile plate to make the straightening action more effective.
- Direction of use
- The straightener must be used in the direction indicated by the arrows (comb always located at the bottom) so that the hair section is exposed to the steam before being straightened between the plates.
- Clasp the hair firmly between the plates; The steam starts spreading automatically as soon as the tongs are closed. Run your straightener slowly, from the root to the end of the hair so that the steam can spread to the heart of the hair section.
- Do not hang your straightener by its steam cord.
- Every time you use the Steampod we strongly recommend you take the utmost care in order to achieve the best result.
- Using your straightener with a hair care.
- Step by step instructions on use:
Over the basin:
- Shampoo
- Apply a suitable rinsing product
- Rinse and Comb out
- Wring your hair
On the hairdressing counter:
- Apply and mix in a suitable Steampod care to the lengths and ends of your hair
- Comb out
- Dry
- Using a comb choose a fine section of hair (veil) which is a few centimetres wide, Comb it then place it between the plates.
ENERGY ECONOMY MODE
The straightener will go into standby mode if it hasn't been used for 1hour. To reset it, press continuously on the on/off button.
STORING YOUR PRODUCT
During straightening:
For reasons of convenience we recommend that you don't place the straightener on its stand during straightening and use a heat-resistant mobile trolley.
Do not hang your straightener by its steam cord.
When the straightening is finished:
When you've finished using your straightener, place it on its storage stand. Wind the steam cord and the power cord around the base.
