Overview

UNDERSTANDING YOUR VIPER® HD SPOTTING SCOPE & INITIAL SETUP

Attach the Eyepiece
If you wish to use the included neoprene case, put the neoprene case on the spotting scope prior to attaching the Eyepiece. Before attaching the Eyepiece, remove any covers that would interfere with attaching it to the spotting scope body. Keep the exterior lens covers handy to protect exposed lenses whenever you are not viewing through the Viper® HD spotting scope.

  1. To attach the Eyepiece, insert the Eyepiece into the body and rotate clockwise using the lock ring on the Eyepiece until the Eyepiece is tight (stops rotating).
  2. To detach the Eyepiece, hold the lock ring and tight turn the Eyepiece counterclockwise.

Note: Only turn the Eyepiece with the lock ring for installation or removal. Turning the Eyepiece by the magnification ring or Eyepiece can damage the spotting scope's threads and internal components. The user may hold the Eyepiece in place while tightening to ensure the magnification markings are in their preferred orientation.

Mount the Viper® HD Spotting Scope
Attach the Viper® HD to a tripod or car window mount for stability. The Viper® HD has an Arca-Swiss Compatible Tripod Mount Foot and will work without a quick-release plate on any Arca-Swiss compatible tripod or car window mount. The Viper® HD tripod foot will also attach to any tripod or car-window mount that uses a 1/4"-20 thread pitch. Simply screw the compatible quick-release plate into the bottom of the tripod foot.

Adjust the Magnification
Change your spotting scope's magnification by simply turning the Magnification Adjustment Ring:
Adjust the Magnification

  • Increase the magnification by turning the Magnification Adjustment Ring in a clockwise direction.
  • Decrease the magnification by turning the Magnification Adjustment Ring in a counterclockwise direction.

Never look directly into the sun (or any other intense light) with your Viper® HD spotting scope. This can permanently damage your eyes.

Adjust the Focus
After setting the magnification, some refocusing is usually required. To adjust the focus:
Adjust the Focus

  • Slowly turn the fast focus dial until the subject is nearly in focus.
  • Turn the fine focus dial to pick out the finest details.

Not only does this two-step focusing allow you to see critical details, it also ensures fatigue-free viewing.

Adjust the Eyecup
The Adjustable Eyecup on the Viper® HD spotting scope twists up and down so you can observe the full field of view. The Adjustable Eyecup will help with comfortable viewing for differences in facial structure and for use with or without glasses. To adjust the Eyecup down, spin clockwise. To adjust the Eyecup up, spin counterclockwise.

MAINTENANCE

Cleaning
Your Viper® HD spotting scope requires very little routine maintenance other than periodically cleaning the exterior lenses. The spotting scope's exterior may be cleaned by wiping with a soft cloth. When cleaning the lenses, be sure to use products that are specifically designed for use on coated optical lenses.

  • Be sure to blow away any dust or grit on the lenses prior to wiping the surfaces.
  • Using your breath, or a very small amount of water or pure alcohol can help remove stubborn dried water spots.

Lubrication
All spotting scope components are permanently lubricated, so no additional lubricant should be applied.
Note: Other than to remove the Eyepiece, do not attempt to disassemble any spotting scope components. Disassembling of spotting scope may void warranty.

Storage
If possible, avoid storing your scope in direct sunlight or any very hot location for long periods of time.
