    INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction Welcome to the manual for your WINGS X2. The WINGS X2 is a Full-Height Full-Length PCIe (Hardware) RAID SSD card. You can setup two SSDs as one RAID volume, or just use each drive separately with AHCI mode. The next sections explain how to setup and configure your WINGS X2. By default, the Wings X2 is setup for AHCI. If you want to use a different RAID mode, please see the section Setting the RAID mode.

    Classic MacPro 4,1 and 5,1 are fully supported. Classic MacPro 3,1 and before are not supported. IMPORTANT! Before installing the Wings X2, please make sure that the computer is turned off and the power plug is disconnected. I. Before you begin, shut down your computer and unplug the power cable and any other cables. Remember where each cable belongs. For example take a picture.

    There are many different types of computers. Some steps can differ from what is written. If you are unsure about any of the steps, consult the manual of your computer. IMPORTANT! Before installing the Wings X2, please make sure that the computer is turned off and the power plug is disconnected. Before we begin, shut down your computer, unplug the power cable and any other cables.

    6. CONFIGURING THE WINGS X2 6.1 Configuring on Windows Configuring the Wings X2 The Wings X2 is configured by partitioning and formatting the volume. There are separate instructions for Windows and macOS. The recommended configuration for the Wings X2 is the GPT partition table and a single partition. The sections below explain how to configure your Wings X2 with these settings. If you want a different configuration than explained here, check your operating system manual or check the links in the Getting Help section. WARNING ! Partitioning and formatting are both operations that will delete the data on your drives! Be sure to make a backup of your data before continuing.
  • Page 14 Wings X2 setup for RAID0 and two 512GB drives, look for a disk with approximately 1TB (or 1024GB) of capacity. (fig. 17) III.     6.2 Configuring on macOS 6.2.2 Configuring on macOS 10.10 Yosemite and earlier On macOS the Disk Utility is used to format and partition drives. It can be found under Applications → Utilities → Disk Utility. Partitioning a disk means the creation of separate volumes on a single physical disk. We will create only a single volume on the disk. Start the Disk Utility and follow the steps below. Select Wings X2 from the list of disks, and then select the partition tab, and set the Partition Layout to 1 Partition as in fig.

    TROUBLESHOOTING 8.1 Status leds The frst step in Troubleshooting is checking the status LEDs. The Wings X2 has two red status LEDs which show the status of the card. See the section Hardware Overview for the location of these LEDs.
  • Page 24: An Incorrect Volume Exists After Changing The Raid Mode

    When you changed from RAID0 or SPAN to AHCI: You will need to delete the volume and create a new one. See the section Configuring the Wings X2 for instructions. When you changed from RAID1 to AHCI: In RAID1 both disks contain an exact copy of all data. The volume(s) on one drive will show up correctly.
