3. Installation of the underfloor heating system Tools and materials needed You will need the following items to install and test your underfloor heating system: ● Scissors ● Knife ● Cable stripper ● Measuring tape ● Screwdriver ● Multimeter You’ll also need the right tools and materials to install your particular floor, including products such as an insulation layer under the heating mat or a vapour barrier film over the heating mat, tools, hand tools and any other products that are specific to your floor. - Page 4 There should always be soft insulation/underlay under aluminium heating mats. Carefully inspect the substrate and make sure it is clean, free of sharp edges, protruding nails and other materials that could damage the heating mat. Lay the insulation under the foil heating mat according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Remove the foil heating mat from the packaging and visually inspect the mat for damage.
- Page 5 Step 4: Install the floor sensor for the thermostat Place the sensor about 100 mm from the end of the loop in the heated area, between the heating filaments running on the carpet. Do not allow the tip of the sensor to come into contact with any of the heating element wires. We recommend the use of a protective tube when installing a floor sensor.

Step 6: Connect the thermostat After installing the floor covering, connect the thermostat and make sure the maximum temperature is 27 °C. A thermostat with a floor sensor MUST be used to accurately monitor the floor temperature and your comfort level.
