  • Page 2 The Most Entertaining Sound Strainer. Two independent filters allow us to shape sound based frequency spectrum. The Strainer o ers four filter types: Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass, and Notch. Our engineering laboratory is unique in the world, stay tuned!

  • Page 5 3. Functions, Inputs and Outputs. ZanySignals' design prioritizes ease of interpretation and use, allowing for quick and straightforward integration into your workflow. As a result, it's more ergonomic in its knobs, ensuring anyone feels comfortable when interacting with each module.
  • Page 6 Next, a brief explanation of the segmentation of this module's parameters will be provided. The primary functions are assigned to the large black knobs. Secondary and tertiary functions are represented by the small black and blue knobs, respectively. Switches are implemented to toggle or hold a function. Function 1 Function 2...
  • Page 7 The E-switches are designed to allow for three possible functions. Function 1 Function 3 Function 2 Signal inputs are provided through 1/8" jacks, which are clearly distinguished from the outputs as they have a simple boundary, unfilled outline. Inputs Signal outputs are provided via 1/8" jacks, which in this case feature a fully highlighted or filled silkscreen.
  • Page 8 The Strainer features two channels, labeled on the front panel silkscreen as Channel A and B. Each channel is equipped with: Main Knobs. CutO : Defines the filter's cuto frequency. Being a 100% analog module, turning the knob proportionally increases the...
  • Page 9 In LP mode: From the knob's minimum position to its maximum position, the cuto frequency (range in Hz) increases. Thus, the higher the cuto frequency, the more harmonics from the input signal are allowed, broadening the frequency spectrum. In HP mode: Similarly, in the knob's maximum position, the cuto frequency increases, allowing only higher frequencies from the input signal (more selective).
  • Page 10 Inputs. Signal A: Input signal like a VCO wave or a synthesizer voice. Input signals with common amplitudes of 10Vpp, tolerable amplitudes up to 12Vpp. CV: Voltage Control (CV) to the filter's CutO frequency. Typical input signal levels from LFO 5Vpp, ADSR 9Vpp, from the sequencer Pitch or CV of 10Vpp.

    4. Operation. For the Strainer's proper operation, input a signal into Chan- nel A or B. This can be a synthesizer voice, an audio sample, a VCO, or an audio signal that has undergone another synthe- sis process. The input signal amplitude should not exceed 12Vpp.
  • Page 12 Filter A Filter B The operation of the Alternative Mod switch allows for three possible scenarios. The first corresponds to the central position, where both filter channels operate independently, as previously explained. In the upper position, Channel A's filter internally connects to Channel B's filter (output of A to the input of B) exclusively in B's LP mode, o ering the aforementioned possibilities.
  • Page 13 Channel A in LP mode and Channel B in LP mode: This increases the dB/decade roll-o of the low-pass LP filter, allowing for a much steeper filter slope with harmonics closer after the cuto frequency. The maximum amplitude is 11Vpp. Channel A in HP mode and Channel B in LP mode: This configuration allows for the creation of a band-pass filter.
  • Page 14 In the bottom position, channel A's filter will internally connect to channel B's filter (output of A to the input of B) exclusively in B's HP mode. This o ers the following possibilities: Channel A in LP mode and Channel B in HP mode: This configuration allows for the creation of a band-reject filter.

The Strainer requires a ±12V power supply, meaning a 10-pin connector (2x5 pins). Connect the Ribbon cable to the 10-pin female connector on the module's circuit board. Ensure the red stripe of the cable connects to the -12V tension, as shown in the following image.

  • Page 17 Note Always be aware of the output and input levels of each signal to prevent damage to this or any other module. Given the large audio levels of Eurorack, you should connect to modules specifically designed to accept these levels. Never connect an output to an input that accepts a lower voltage level.
  • Page 18: Warranty

During the warranty period (1 year for this module), the defective product will be repaired or replaced at ZanySignals' discretion. It is necessary to return the product to ZanySignals' facilities, with the consumer covering the shipping costs. This allows us to review and inspect the module's defects and proceed with the repair.
