When using this unit, be sure to observe the following precautions:
* Avoid using in areas subject to direct sunlight or extremes of temperature or humidity. Be
especially careful to avoid letting the copy element become exposed to direct sunlight.
* This unit is designed for use in temperatures between 5° (41°F) and 35°C (95°F).
¢ Avoid repeated copying of mostly dark originals.:If dark or black originals are copied

* Never allow pins, paper clips or other small objects to enter the space between the copy
element and the printer head.
¢ Never drop this unit or expose it to strong impact. Take special care to protect the copy
element and printer head — never touch them directly or allow them to be scratched.
¢ Be sure to promet the unit from damage by Bering it | In the accessory hard case amish

densation temporarily builds up on the printer head making it impossible to copy. In such
cases, wait a few minutes for the condensation to evaporate before fete the. unit.

e Avoid spilling coffee, juice or other liquids on this unit.

e Always switch the power of the unit OFF when you are not using it. savin the power
switched ON for long periods will shorten battery life and may interfere with further charging.
¢ Be careful when you switch the power of the unit ON and OFF Switching we suey can
damage the unit and cause malfunction.

e Avoid using this unit in the immediate vicinity of radios or ieloviaiona as it may disrupt
reception.
« Never place objects on top of this unit.
e Be sure to clean the printer head regularly with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Take
care, however, that you don't get alcohol on other components — only the printer head.
¢ Be sure to use a cotton swab to regularly remove any dust adhering to the copy element.

* The printer head has a flexible mount to avoid damage when it is pressed against a siinting
surface. When you print, the printer head may move slightly, but this will not affect apiekss
and is no need for concern.

About the Power Supply
This unit comes complete with a rechargeable battery.
If you try to use this unit when the battery is low, the low-power alarm will sound, the ,
power indicator will not light, and the unit will not work. 'At this time the data stored. in.
this unit is cleared. Be sure to charge the battery if this should occur.

3. Notes on copying/printing

(1) Always make sure original and paper being soled onto are placed on a level surface.
(2) Once you've placed the unit on the copying/printing surtace, take care not to move it
to the right or left.
(3) Always move the unit in a straight line.
* Moving the unit with a circular motion or holding it at an snaia. may roauitt in distorted co-
pies, make it impossible to use the printer ribbon or even damage the printer head.
¢ To move the unit In a straight line, place a ruler or other straight edge on the paper
as a guide. Copying and printing is easily accomplished by moving the unit along
the ruler.
() Move the unit slowly.

For copying, move the unit at a pace fess than about 50mm (2") per second. For print-
ing, move the unit at a pace less than about 50mm (2") per recone: Any. meer and it
will become difficult to make clear copies.

4. How to hold the unit.

Hold the unit firmly, with your thumb placed on the thumb guide. Notice that.one end
of the unit is used for copying, and the ounes is used for pontieg:

° Occasionally, printing may be too light, even though copy/printer density control i is set for
dark printing.

Should this happen, try pressing the unit down on the surface to whieh you its printing
with a little more pressure.

° If blotting occurs, don't press down on the unit while printing.

Original with sufficient black — white contrast can n be read clearly.

* Originals with insufficient contrast, or those that contain such light colors, as yellow and
pink, may be difficult to copy clearly.

Choosing Materials for Printing

Generally speaking, smooth paper should be selected for printing. Buen, 'unfinished paper
stock should be avoided. In addition, printing is possible on the other materials listed below,
provided that they feature smooth surfaces (some may be more diffeutt to print on pian
others).
Paper
Acrylic sheets
Vinyl
OHP film
| Wood .
It is impossible to print on the following types of materials:... . bay

¢ Glass, metal or other materials which will not absorb ink. — .
¢ Rough or uneven surfaces (for example, the rough edges of wood | sheets) may damage
the printer head, tear the ribbon, etc.
¢ Materials which have undergone special surface processing.
The above list of materials for printing offers only some possible suggestions, use your own
discretion when attempting to print on other materials.
