THE MOTIVE SX2 LOUDSPEAKER
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Congratulations on choosing the Neat Motive SX2 loudspeakers. Used correctly, they will provide a lifetime of beautiful
music. Please read the following notes in order to get the best from them.
RUNNING IN
A 'running in' period of at least 200 hours is necessary to stabilise performance. After this period, a further
gradual improvement will occur over a period of several weeks.
THE MOTIVE SX2 LOUDSPEAKER IS SUPPLIED FULLY ASSEMBLED.
BEWARE OF SPIKES!
FIRST
Place the Motive SX2 approximately in position. Level by adjusting the spikes, then tighten locking rings firmly by hand.
CONNECTION
The Motive SX2 is usually supplied with a single set of terminals for 'normal' (single-wire) connection. Just connect the
cable from the amplifier to the terminals, ensuring correct polarity.
The Motive SX2 may also be supplied with bi-wiring terminals. This must be specified at the time of ordering. For bi-wire
terminals, see below.
Bi-wiring is effected by running two sets of cable from the amplifier output terminals. Connect one set to the lower and one
set to the upper terminals on the rear of the speaker. Take care to ensure correct phasing (i.e. red and black connections
maintained at amplifier and speaker). Bi-wiring can bring about a significant change in performance and this should be
evaluated on an individual basis. Some amplifiers will respond better than others, and personal taste is also a strong
factor.
Bi-amplification is recommended and, generally, brings benefits in scale and dynamic contrast. It involves the use of 2
stereo amplifiers (or 4 monobloc amplifiers). When this bi-amplification is being considered, please consult your dealer, or
Neat Acoustics, for advice.
POSITIONING
Due to huge variations in the acoustic properties of different rooms, there are few hard and fast rules governing
loudspeaker positioning, and experimentation is recommended. Generally, bass output increases as distance from the
rear wall, or side wall, decreases. Stereo depth improves as the speaker is brought away from room boundaries. Start with
the Motive SX2 at approx. 30cm from the rear walls, with at least 50cm from side walls, with a slight toe-in (15-20%) and
make incremental moves in different directions, noting the changes, until an optimal position is reached. Remember that
sometimes very small movements of the loudspeaker can bring about significant differences in balance.
