WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury, damage to the
tool or invalidation of the product warranty.
Safety Warnings
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective
equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection
used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
• Use good quality industrial gloves. Safety-rated vibration-reduction gloves with low
tear resistance are recommended when core drilling.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and
clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught
in moving parts.
• Use dust extraction where appropriate.
• Always disconnect tools from power supply before changing accessories,
performing adjustments or carrying out maintenance.
• Check core drills for damage or defects before use. Damaged drills should not be
used and must be disposed of.
Tool control while drilling
• Always maintain control of your tool while core drilling. When using core drills,
the drill may be snatched from the user's hands in the event of a jam. This can cause
personal injury and tool damage.
• To minimise the risk of a loss of control ensure it is possible to maintain a secure
hold of the power tool during use. Adopt a stable position, brace as necessary and
take measures to ensure sure footing.
Assembly (Fig. I)
Note: This tool requires an arbor to connect to the drill. Suitable hex and SDS arbors are
available from Silverline stockists.
1. Always switch off and disconnect the drill from the power supply before fitting or
removing a core drill bit.
2. Insert the hexagonal or SDS arbor into the core drill and tighten using a suitable
spanner. Take care to ensure it is positioned squarely and not cross-threaded. Do not
overtighten and make sure threads are clean.
3. Place the tapered end of the pilot drill into the arbor and tap into place using a soft-
faced hammer or similar. Do not damage the drill tip by using a hard hammer.
4. Lubricate the arbor shank (in accordance with drill manufacturer's recommendations).
5. After carrying out any required preparation (see 'Preparation' section below) secure the
core assembly in the drill chuck.
Intended Use
TCT Core Drill Bit for use with heavy-duty power drills (minimum power 750W) with
adjustable speed and high torque. Suitable for drilling burnt clay brick, sand lime brick,
asphalt, concrete and aerated concrete blocks. Not suitable for glass, metal, engineering
brick and similar, stone, granite or ceramics.
Note: This drill does not have the same capacity or functionality as a diamond core drill.

Operation
Drilling advice
• This core drill may be used in both rotational and hammer mode. Hammer mode will
allow faster drilling but will wear the drill more quickly than rotational mode. This does
not constitute a fault with the tool.
• Do not exceed the maximum speed for the core drill bit as set out in the table below.
Bear in mind that harder materials will also require slower speeds.

• Drill straight, taking care not to force the drill sideways.
• Do not apply excessive force to the drill: this may damage the power tool and the core
drill. TCT core drills function differently to diamond core drills and often take longer
to penetrate.
• To prevent binding, withdraw the core from the hole and remove debris at regular
intervals.
• If the task requires drilling to a depth that exceeds that of the core drill and the drill
fills with solid material, break the masonry core using a cold chisel and remove before
continuing drilling.
• If the hole is set to approach the other side of the wall or block being drilled, change
from hammer mode (if used) to rotational mode to reduce the risk of blowout (a large
piece of material breaking away from the outside). Reduce speed and drill carefully.
Fig.2
Preparation
1. Drill a pilot hole of at least 8mm using a suitable masonry drill (not supplied).
2. With the core drill securely mounted, set the power drill to an appropriately low speed
and position the pilot drill for the core drill into the pre-drilled pilot hole.
3. Use the core drill to score a groove where the final hole will be drilled.
4. Remove the core drill and use a masonry drill to make relief holes at regular intervals
around the groove. This will speed up the drilling process.
Note: Take care to ensure all pilot holes and grooves are positioned and angled correctly.
Drilling
1. Remove pilot drill before starting the main drilling task. Insert the drift supplied with

the arbor and gently tap with a soft hammer (Fig. II).
2. Set the drill at a reasonably low speed and begin drilling. When the core drill meets the
surface, push the drill into the material. Do not force the drill; allow the tool to do the
work. Core drilling requires patience.
3. Adjust the speed of the drill to match the material. Do not exceed the maximum speed
of the core drill (see table above).
4. Drill at an even speed to the required depth. If the drill catches, retract the drill and clear
debris from tool and the hole before drilling again.
Disassembly
1. Ensure power drill is turned off and disconnected from the power supply
2. Remove any debris that may remain inside the core drill bit
3. Remove the pilot drill by inserting a drift key into the hole in the arbor; you may need
to use a hammer
4. Unscrew the core drill from the arbor and store equipment carefully in a secure, dry
place out of the reach of children
