Rev. 00 1. PRESENTATION 1.1. INTRODUCTION Blue Bird Industries would like to thank you for purchasing the portable winch. This user manual is intended to help you use your new winch in a safe and optimal way. READ CAREFULLY THE USER MANUAL BEFORE USING THE WINCH.
Rev. 00 1.2. GENERAL WARNINGS This manual contains information for: 1. a proper installation; 2. a proper use of the device; 3. an efficient maintenance. The winch was created to reduce the pulling effort of dragging weights. Generally, it can be used in positions where it is not possible to reach the electromotive force or in inaccessible places.
Rev. 00 During device's operation it is forbidden to clean, oil or grease the various components, and the • repair and adjustment of the various parts are prohibited. In case of clogging or blocking of any part, before releasing it, turn off the device. Make sure that all moving parts are fitted with the proper protections and carefully reassemble •...

Rev. 00 It is compulsory to use the indicated protective devices The safety signs include warning and danger plates applied on the device and along with or represented by pictograms in order to draw the attention of the operator to possible hazards. The service and maintenance personnel must know the symbols perfectly.
Rev. 00 DEVICE CHARACTERISTICS Main parts Motor Fuel tank Muffler Handle for lifting and manual transport. Gearbox (lubricate with grease). ngine shutdown button. Engine air boot Slot for anchoring the machine during processing. Rope-reel drum Rope guide Rope sliding pulleys / Semi- automatic acceleration system.
Rev. 00 USE OF THE WINCH Although the winch has passed the internal production testing phase, avoid the first time to exceed the duration of the pulling force, in order to allow the gear unit to run in. In the design and construction of the device, the prescriptions, recommendations and useful indications provided by the applicable regulations have been followed, in order to make the result widely acceptable regarding accident prevention.
Rev. 00 3.2. WINCH ANCHORING In most cases, the winch is anchored to a fixed point using polyester harness or similar anchoring devices and the rope is attached to the object to be moved. In this case the load moves towards the winch when pulling the rope The winch anchoring must exclusively happen by the hook (A) shown in the figure.
Rev. 00 Place the winch in line with the load. When the winch is under tension, it will align with the load. The friction of the lashing against the anchoring point could block the proper alignment. In this case, release the tension on the rope and fix the position of the lashing on the anchoring point so that the tension is evenly distributed.

Rev. 00 3.4. END OF ROPE: RECCOMENDED KNOTS It is necessary to fix the load at the end of the rope. Even if a simple knot is enough, we recommend the installation of a hook with a bowline knot as it can be easily dissolved if you need to change the hook. In addition, the double bowline knot (fig.16) retains about 75% of the rope’s reach.
Rev. 00 3.6. TROPE WRAPPING ON DRUM Always mount the rope with the motor switched off! NEVER put your hands on the drum or on the pulleys where passing the rope when the engine is running. When the engine is off, pass the rope inside the eyelet (fig.4); (fig.4) Wrap the rope around the drum up to a maximum of five turns (fig.5) ;...

Rev. 00 (fig.8) Stay at about 1 mt. (3') from the winch and pull slightly and horizontally the rope to obtain the necessary friction until an increase in tension is felt on the rope. Visually check the set to ensure the anchoring of the winch. Check that the rope does not rub against objects along the way.
Rev. 00 3.7. SWITCHING ON THE MOTOR For engine start modes, please see the related instruction manual attached to this document. Some general information is given below: 1. To start the engine of the winch make sure firstly that the stop switch is in position, otherwise, in addition to not starting because already grounded, the engine is likely to flood and have difficulty in running.

Rev. 00 By doing this, you act on the semi-automatic throttle: pulling the rope, the system of leverages connected to the gas control cable, make the operator able to accelerate and decelerate the engine automatically (fig.13). The operator, by pulling and releasing the rope, controls the acceleration or deceleration of the engine, therefore the progression or arrest of the load drag.
Page 20
Rev. 00 fig.14 Carefully check the drum during operation and make sure the rope does not cross over it. If • this happens, release the tension on the rope and stop the motor before releasing the crossing. • Preventively plan the signals between the operator using the winch and those who assist him to avoid hazardous situations.

Rev. 00 3.9. ENGINE SHUTDOWN - ROPE UNWINDING To turn off the engine, act on the lever. (fig.14). (fig.14) ROPE UNWINDING UNDER LOAD 3.10. After the load has been dragged to the wanted position and the entire rope has been retrieved, you should proceed with the unwinding of the rope from the drum.
Rev. 00 4. INCONVENIENCES – CAUSES – SOLUTIONS Refer to the table below to find some faults and related measures. ANOMALY CAUSE INTERVENTION The motor does not turn Interruption of electrical Check the integrity of the connection faston and wire; if interrupted replace it completely Pulling the rope, therefore...
Rev. 00 5. INFORMATION ON SAFETY Emergency situations A proper use of the device prevents any emergency situations from occurring during operation or during cleaning or maintenance, unless these are not performed as indicated by this instruction manual In case of imminent mechanical danger, stop the motor and turn it off. You will need to perform a thorough search of the failure or anomaly that has caused the danger and, once detected, restore the functionality of the device.
