  • Page 5: Mounting Hardware

    Mounting Hardware The Apertura 8” Classical Cassegrain comes with a D-style dovetail plate mounted to the telescope. It also comes with a V-series dovetail bar in the package which can be mounted to the top of the telescope for attaching accessories or a second, smaller telescope. The D-series bar can also be replaced with the V-series bar for mounting the telescope on mounts which do not accept D-series dovetail bars.
  • Page 6 Focuser The 8” Classical Cassegrain uses a unique dual speed linear bearing focuser which is strong and can support a 2” diagonal and large 2” eyepieces. What exactly is a linear bearing focuser? This focuser design is similar to a Crayford but uses a 100mm long rail which is supported by dozens of precision ball bearings that ride in a track.

The single 1” long spacer will need to be installed between the focuser and the telescope if you will be observing with the 2” diagonal. There are advanced system charts at the end of this document which demonstrate a variety of the nearly limitless combinations of accessories that can be used with this telescope and how you might connect them together.

By covering and uncovering the reflective portion of the CCE with your hand it will be apparent which part of the reflection is from the CCE. Adjust the secondary mirror collimation hardware until the reflective target is centered on the crosshairs and the secondary mirror center spot.

We want to move the optical axis so it corresponds with the center of the field of view. This is, in essence, exactly what we are doing when we collimate a telescope.
