This document does not replace the installation manual, refer to the installation manual for
detailed information.
This document is a reference guide that provides important information required for the correct setup of
the Hx™3 Zoning System. The system is easy to install but installation requires training and attention to
detail to ensure proper system operation for the end user.
The tables and images in this document are most useful for an experienced installer. For more informa-
tion, access available training material and refer to the installation manual provided in the Hx™3 Zone
Module (ZM) kit (S1-ZMC401A).
Communicating Zoning System Checklist
Room by room load calculation per ACCA or equivalent.
Determine Airflow Requirements for each zone (the CFM value will be used during Auto Setup).
-Zone Module controlled Airflow Bleeding Requires a 60% airflow adder per zone (See the table
below)
Determine if a Bypass Damper* is needed to safely maintain an appropriate external static pressure
Wire the MAIN CONTROL - Hx™3 Touch Screen Thermostat in Quadrant E (primary Zone Module)
Wire communicating indoor, outdoor, & accessory controls in Quadrant D (primary Zone Module)
Wire leaving Air Sensor between Quadrant A and Quadrant B (primary Zone Module)
Replace Indoor XFMR with a 75VA* (if the zone system contains more than one Hx™ Thermostat)
Verify Damper Type (Power Open / Power Close) 3-Wire ONLY
Verify Damper Timings for all installed 3-Wire Dampers
Install Dampers in Quadrant C (primary Zone Module) & in Quadrant C (secondary Zone Module**)
Determined VA Requirement for the Damper XFMR* (see transformer sizing instructions to the right).
Install Zone Sensors in Quadrant A (primary Zone Module) & in Quadrant A (secondary Zone Module**)
Install Expansion Wire in Quadrant B (primary Zone Module) & in Quadrant B (secondary Zone Module**)
Set "ZONE ADDRESS" DIP switches on all Zone Sensors
Select "ZONE ADDRESS" on all Zone Thermostats after Zone Thermostats are powered.
* Field Supplied Component.
** If Applicable; secondary Zone Module.
Airflow Bleeding Multiplier Instructions:
For each zone:
STEP 1: Enter Load Calculated Zone CFM in "Column 1" (Refer to Individual Site Load Calculation).
STEP 2: Multiply Load Calculated Zone CFM in "Column 1" by the Airflow Bleeding Multiplier in "Column 2".
STEP 3: Enter the Airflow Bleeding CFM in "Column 3" (Calculation from Step 2).
STEP 4: Add Load Calculated Zone CFM in "Column 1" with the Airflow Bleeding CFM in "Column 3".
STEP 5: Enter Individual Zone Airflow Calculation in "Column 4" (Calculation from Step 4).
STEP 6: Enter Individual Zone Airflow Calculation from "Column 4" into the Installer Reference Table on
the upper right corner of this document.

Transformer Sizing Instructions:
For each zone:
STEP 1: Write the quantity of connected 3-wire dampers in the "Quantity" column.
STEP 2: Multiply the "Quantity" by the "VA each". Enter the result in the "Total VA" column.
STEP 3: Add the "Total VA" rows together and enter the value into the "Minimum VA" location.
STEP 4: Compare the "Minimum VA" to the "Maximum VA". If the "Minimum VA" is larger than the "Max-
imum VA" then you must reduce the number of dampers on that zone. The Minimum VA must
be lower than the Maximum VA.
STEP 5: Add the Minimum VA values for all zones; enter this into the "TOTAL VA" row. The transformer
VA chosen to supply the damper power on the zone module must be rated higher than the total
Minimum VA value.
When using the Zone Module to control an external relay (24 VAC), using a separate transformer to
drive additional dampers is recommended if the Minimum VA is higher than the Maximum VA. The
external relay must NOT pull more than 0.6 A.

A damper fuse is included on the Zone Module (5A) to protect both the dampers and Zone Module for
the maximum rated current. Determine the recommended fuse size for the transformer being installed.
If the "Fuse Size" (recommended based on the above table) is less than the installed fuse size on the
Zone Module, the transformer should be equipped with its own protection device or the zone damper
fuse (F2) must be changed.
