The Emerson EPB-4000 may not power on despite the standby light being on due to several possible reasons:

1. Power Source Issue: If using battery power, ensure the batteries are installed correctly with the correct polarity and are not depleted. If using AC power, confirm the adapter is securely connected to both the device and the wall outlet.
2. Function or Mode Selection: Ensure the correct mode (CD, cassette, radio, etc.) is selected using the FUNCTION button.
3. Faulty Connection: Check if the speaker cables and other connections are properly secured.
4. Internal Malfunction: If none of the above resolve the issue, there may be an internal fault requiring professional servicing.

If the standby light is on but the device does not respond, try unplugging it for a few minutes and then reconnecting it.
