    Hydraulic Solenoid Valve A 4-way, proportional, directional solenoid valve, powered by DC voltage, is common to all SCA 300 systems. This valve directs the flow from the hydraulic power unit to the steering gear in order to actuate either a port or starboard turn of the rudder.

    Figure 2 – Typical Travel Limits (Angles may vary) SCA 300 Steering Control Amplifier The SCA 300 is designed for use with DC powered hydraulic solenoid valves. The SCA is fully capable of either full follow-up or non follow-up operation.
  • Page 8 Non Follow-up Speed - adjusts the hard over to hard over time of the steering gear in non follow-up mode. SCA 300 Output Devices The SCA 300 can output to rudder angle indicators (RAI) as well as rudder order indicators (ROI). The SCA contains two rudder angle indicator outputs, CRAI (constant rudder angle indication) and RAI.

    WARNING: ALL SET UP AND TESTING PROCEDURES MUST BE PERFORMED WHILE THE VESSEL IS STATIONARY AND NOT UNDERWAY. Adjustments to the SCA 300 are made at the trimmer potentiometers (trim pots) located on the amplifier's circuit board. Each trim-pot can be located by reading the labels on the SCA 300’s circuit board or by referring to Figure 12.

    Setup and Testing Page 20 of 31 Figure 12 – SCA 300 Internal Configuration NOTE: Jastram’s input and output devices use plugs wherever possible in order to eliminate a reversed polarity condition (e.g. indicators displaying incorrect rudder direction). However, this condition may still occur where plugs are not used.

  • Page 25 Confirm that all heat shrink tubing boots are threaded tightly against the plugs then unplug the SCA 300’s cables and carefully heat the shrink tubing attached to the plugs. This can be done with a torch at a low setting.

    The SCA 300 is virtually maintenance free. No parts require routine maintenance. Once a year open the cover of the SCA 300 and visually check for signs of corrosion. If corrosion is apparent, replace corroded part. Ensure the lid is put on tightly.
