Starr Labs Ztar String Preamp Card Installation instructions
1. Remove the instrument backplate.
2. Locate the String Preamp card. Hopefully it is easy to access. If it is buried
underneath the CPU card or other electronics we may need to consult to be sure you can
make the installation yourself.
3. Holding the new Preamp card in your hand in the same orientation as the old card,
remove the cables and install them on the new card.
4. Dismount the old preamp card and install the new one in its place.
5. You are welcome to change the order of these steps. Just be sure to replace the cables
on the new card properly- it is useful to use a marker to put a line on the cable connector
and a corresponding line on the board to show the proper alignment.
6. Make sure the cables are routed neatly and replace the backplate.
7. Your original Preamp card uses small standoffs to mount the card to the back of the
backplate allowing the trimpots to show through the slot. Some of the old preamp boards
have the standoffs permanently attached to the board and can not be removed. --- In your
kit you will find (4) Male/Female standoffs, washers and nuts.
8. Install the standoffs by placing the male end into the corner holes of the board from
the top side and attach with a washer and nut on the back side. Repeat for all 4 standoffs.
Now place the new board against the rear of the backplate, position the holes and attach
using the flathead screws that held the original board.
