is a risk of one or more stabiliser subsiding, apply
the handbrake and unhook from any towing
vehicle.
Loosen off the locking clamps and pull out all
stabilisers, taking care not to pull them too far as they
can be removed, then work round the lift gradually
winding down all four jacking feet.
Ensure the chassis is level, with the road wheels
clear of the ground.
Slide the light unit onto the end of the mast, then
remove the transport locking pin from the mast.
Now carefully turn the mast cable winch
clockwise, until the mast anchor pin snaps into its
locating hole on the chassis.
Once the anchor pin is safely and correctly
located, continue turning the cable winch until the
mast reaches the required height.
NOTE: the mast is at its maximum height when the
red warning bands on the mast sections
are visible.
Set the generators MCB' s to the OFF position, plug
the lights into the appropriate 16A or 32A power
socket, then coil excess lead neatly but loosely,
close to the power supply but away from the work area
where people can't trip over them.
Stand the gas cylinder/s in the cage on the side of
the trailer. Make sure all connections are in good
condition and free from dirt and grease.
To fit a propane cylinder, check that the cylinder
valve is fully closed, then remove the screw-in
plastic plug (left hand thread – turn clockwise) from the
cylinder' s valve. Screw the equipment' s pressure
regulator to the gas cylinder (left-handed thread –
turn anticlockwise) and tighten up with the spanner
provided.
Now open the cylinder valve and check for leaks...
Turn the ignition key to ON. The gas warning lamp
will illuminate if there is no gas supply (due to an empty
cylinder or the cylinder' s valve is closed). Now turn the
key to the 'RUN' position until the engine starts,
then return the key to the ON position.
Once the engine has warmed up, move the MCB' s
to the ON position and the lights will illuminate.
In case of difficulty, contact your local HSS Hire Shop.
FROST WARNING
Liquid gas can cause severe 'freeze burns' so avoid skin
contact by wearing gloves when making connections.
This cooling effect may also result in the formation of frost
around the cylinder or cylinder connections. Having
satisfied yourself, in the case of the connection forming
ice, that this is not due to a leak, you can ignore it or
wipe it off with a cloth. Never apply heat to the cylinder
or equipment.
EQUIPMENT CARE
Never use lighting towers for anything other than
their intended purpose. If they will not do what you
want, assume you have the wrong equipment for the
job. Contact you local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Handle the gas connectors and hose with care.
Never over-tighten or cross-thread the gas
connector.
Always handle gas cylinders with care; in particular
the valve. Avoid dropping or knocking them.
Oil Alert
HSS gas generators have a warning light to alert you if
the engine oil level falls below a safe minimum. If this
should come on, switch off the engine immediately
and top up the oil level before restarting.
Check the oil level before starting and every 8
hours thereafter. Withdraw the dip stick, wipe it clean,
then replace it – remove it a second time to verify that the
oil level is between the MIN and MAX lines. Top up if
necessary.
Never
expose
the
equipment
to
dust
dangerous/corrosive chemicals.
Keep the equipment clean. You will find this less of a
chore if you clean it regularly, rather than wait until the
end of the hire period.
Handle the equipment with care, even site lighting
contains delicate bulbs that can be damaged by
rough treatment.
Always switch OFF and unplug the lighting towers
before making any alterations or adjustments
to them.
When not in use, store the equipment somewhere
clean, dry and safe from thieves.
Regularly check the gas warning light. If it comes
on, switch off the generator and fit a new gas cylinder.
Fuel Alert
HSS gas generators have a lamp to alert you if the gas
cylinder is nearly empty. When the warning lamp
illuminates on the control panel, the cylinder
needs changing.
FINISHING OFF
Turn the generator' s MCB' s to the OFF position and
pull out all the plugs.
Turn the gas tap off and allow the generator to use
up all the fuel in the system. When the engine
stops turn the ignition key to OFF . If you leave the
key in the ON position the battery will go flat.
Unscrew the gas connector (remember it has a left
handed thread, so turn it clockwise) and re-fit its
protective plastic cap (if supplied).
Lower the mast by turning the cable winch anti-
clockwise, until all the mast sections are closed.
Keeping the winch cable in tension, lift the mast
anchor pin out of its locating hole on the chassis,
resume turning the cable winch until the collapsed
mast is horizontal and positioned correctly on its
rest point.
Replace the transport lock pin and remove the
light head.
Working round the lighting tower, fully wind up
the jacking feet, then unlock and push the
stabilisers back into the chassis, re-locking them in
place. Failure to do this will result in the stabiliser sliding
out while being towed.
Finally, neatly coil flexes ready for return to your
local HSS Hire Shop.
