  • Page 6 INTRODUCTION The PREFER methane gas detector is calibrated to start alarming before a level of 9% LEL of the detected gas is reached. The LEL (Lower Explosion Limit) of the gas defines the minimum ratio of gas volume or combustible vapors in the air in which an explosive atmosphere will form.
  • Page 7 Detectors have limitations. Just like any other electronic devices, gas detectors are not insured against handling mistakes. They have a limited lifetime. You should test the gas detector monthly. If your gas detector turns out not to function properly, or the self-test indicates improper functioning replace the device immediately (see chapter on “Testing”).

  • Page 10 POSITIONING WHERE TO INSTALL THE METHANE GAS DETECTOR The gas detector should be installed in the room where a gas leak is most likely to occur. This may be the kitchen because of the presence of a gas cooker and other gas appliances. The gas leaks, lighter than air, tend to rise and fill all the volume above the level of the leak.

Vapors of cleaning liquids, varnishes, paints, vapors from kitchen activities can affect the operation of the detector and can cause false alarms and malfunctions of the detector.

    Your PREFER Methane Gas Detector can be wall mounted. Note: It is very important to install the detector in the correct position. First, see “Where to install the methane gas detector” paragraph for general guidelines as to where to locate your gas detector.

    WALL MOUNTING WARNING! Before mounting the detector make sure the device is not powered. The detector is supplied with double side adhesive band for wall mounting. Also, two screws can be used (Φ4x26 mm screws recommended) and two plastic anchors.     PREFER is a methane gas leak detector for domestic premises. In order to ensure real safety, a gas detector must be coupled with a solenoid valve capable of blocking the gas flow.

    TESTING WARNING! DO NOT USE A CIGARETTE LIGHTER TO TEST THE ALARM. Simply press the Test/Reset button any time while in normal operation. The bicolor LED lights up RED, the alarm sounds and the relay activates the solenoid valve which cuts off the gas flow. Release the button and manually rearm the solenoid valve.
  • Page 21 Never use detergents or solvents to clean the detector. Chemicals can permanently damage or temporarily contaminate the sensor. Avoid spraying air fresheners, hair spray, paint or other aerosols near the detector. Do not paint the detector. Paint will seal the vents and interfere with proper sensor operation.
