WARNING If the DMC-3x01x motion controller and included amplifiers or stepper drivers are not used in a manner specified by Galil Motion Control, the protection provided by the controller, amplifiers and drivers may be impaired. ▫ ii...
Chapter 1 Overview Introduction The DMC-3x01x Series is Galil’s latest generation single-axis motion controller. It uses a 32-bit RISC processor to provide higher speed than older models. The DMC-30000 is available as a compact card-level or box-level unit and connects to a stepper or servo motor amplifier of any power range. The DMC-3x01x can be purchased with internal drives which can minimize space, cost and wiring.
Table 2.4: IO Cabling Requirements Note – Cabling available from Galil may or may not meet the above requirements. For technical support, contact Galil Motion Control to speak with an Applications Engineer. Chapter 2 Specifications▫ 3 DMC-3x01x UL Installation Manual...

2. Check and confirm that there is no visible damage to the controller or internal amplifier. If damage has occurred, contact Galil Motion Control. 3. Check the labeling on the controller and verify that the controller received matches the part number of the controller purchased.
Mounting the Controller The DMC-3x01x with internal Galil amplifiers should be mounted to an additional heat sink. Thermally conductive compound should be applied between the base plate and the heat sink in order to assist with heat dissipation. The grating found on the side of the metal enclosure must not be obstructed in order to allow for proper air flow and adequate heat dissipation.
Wiring Connections Basic Connections The basic wiring for a DMC-3x01x controller with a internal Galil amplifier is shown in Figure 3.4, Figure 3.5 and Figure 3.3 below. The disconnect switch or circuit breaker for AC power must be installed in a location that is in close proximity to the equipment and within easy reach of the operator.

Commissioning tests are tests on a device or equipment performed to confirm the correctness of installation and operation. These tests should be developed by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and will be unique to each OEM application. For technical support, contact Galil Motion Control to speak with an Applications Engineer. Wiring the Optoisolated Digital Inputs To take full advantage of optoisolation, an isolated power supply should be used to provide the voltage at the input common connection.

Figure 3.8: ELO, Abort and Reset Inputs on the DMC-30000 Wiring the Optoisolated Outputs The DMC-30000 has several different options for the uncommitted digital outputs (labeled as DO). The default outputs are 4mA sinking which are ideal for interfacing to TTL level devices. Additional options include 25mA sinking (lower power sinking, LSNK) and 500mA sourcing (high power sourcing, HSRC).

Cable Shielding Electrical noise can negatively impact system performance by affecting different machine components. For example, it can cause the incorrect reporting of digital input states or position data. One simple and effective way to mitigate electrical noise is to add a shield around the encoder and motor phase cables. For proper shielding, the shield's drain wire should be terminated on only one side of the cable.
Overview Repair / RMA Maintenance for the DMC-3x01x controller should be completed using the RMA process with Galil Motion Control. Do not open the metal enclosure of the DMC-3x01x controller. Removing the metal enclosure will void the warranty. If the DMC-3x01x controller appears damaged, or is exhibiting unexpected behavior, contact Galil Motion Control to speak with an Applications Engineer.
Chapter 5 Integrated Components Overview When ordered, the following integrated amplifiers and stepper drives will reside inside the box of the DMC-3x01x motion controller. These amplifiers and drives provide power to the motors in the system. DMC-30012: 800W Sinusoidally Commutated Amplifier The DMC-30012 provides a sinusoidally commutated, 16 bit PWM amplifier for driving brushless and brush-type servo motors.
DMC-30012 Description The DMC-30012 includes a sinusoidally commutated, PWM amplifier for driving brushless servo motors or a brushed motor. Each amplifier drives motors operating at up to 10 Amps continuous, 15 Amps peak, 20–60 VDC. The gain settings of the amplifier are user-programmable at 0.4 Amp/Volt, 0.8 Amp/Volt and 1.6 Amp/Volt. The switching frequency is 33 kHz.

DMC-30016 Description The DMC-30016 contains a drive for operating two-phase bipolar step motors. The DMC-30016 requires a single 12-30 VDC input. The unit is user-configurable for 0.5 to 1.4 Amps per phase and for full-step, half-step, 1/4 step or 1/16 step. Do not “hot swap”...
DMC-30017 Description The DMC-30017 includes a sinusoidally commutated, 16-bit PWM amplifier that can also be configured as a microstepping drive. This amplifier is unique in that it can run either servo or stepper motors. The DMC-30017 can be configured for all of the motor below with just a few commands. •...
DMC-31000 Description The DMC-31000 is an option that allows for the controller to accept sinusoidal encoder signals in addition to standard, differential quadrature encoder signals . The DMC-31000 option can provide interpolation for a single 1 differential sinusoidal encoder resulting in a higher position resolution. The AF command is used to select the pk-pk degree of interpolation, see AF in the Command Reference for more details.
