If alerts of AC power outages are required (Auxiliary supply, this AC-DC Power Adaptor should be connected to the power outlet of a UPS (ideally the same UPS that supplies the transmitter).
  • Page 6 This is normal convention for broadcast transmitter sites, because it provides inherent ‘power failure’ or ‘cable connection failure’ signalling. NOTE: Power failure alert call can only be generated by the Sentinel if the main DC INPUT connection is powered by a UPS.

IMPORTANT! The ‘open collector’ connections on the transmitter’s interface provide inherent power outage or cable disconnection alarms by design. Do not power the GSM Sentinel until the monitoring cable has been connected to the transmitter and the transmitter is operating normally (otherwise, the Sentinel will begin sending SMS texts).

Operation The Sentinel MUST be within a good indoor signal coverage area. If the GSM network fails, no messages can be sent during the outage. Normal operation is indicated by the solid continuous illumination of the Sentinel’s ‘Status’ LED If there is no GSM signal, or if there is a problem with the SIM card, the LED will continuously flash briefly every 30 seconds to signal a network error.
