    The winch was created to reduce the pulling effort of dragging weights. Generally it can be used in positions where it is not possible to reach the electromotive force or in inaccessible places. Blue Bird Industries portable winches for forestry use are designed only to drag non-rotating objects, normally at approximately 45 degrees from the horizontal plane.

    Rev. 00 WINCH ANCHORING Although the winch has passed the internal production testing phase, avoid the first time to exceed the duration of the pulling force, in order to allow the gear unit to run in. In the design and construction of the device, the prescriptions, recommendations and useful indications provided by the applicable regulations have been followed, in order to make the result widely acceptable regarding accident prevention.

    Rev. 00 3.2. WINCH ANCHORING The winch must be anchored using a ring sling, not less than 2 tons of capacity. Referring to figure 2, the hooking points on the winch are the two omega shackles present in the rear part (A), or directly in the central part of the frame (B) (to prevent foreign bodies to stay between the anchoring hook and the pulling sling).

    Rev. 00 DANGER: Make sure when you purchase the rope, to have a breaking load of 50% more than the maximum towing load of your winch! Using inappropriate or damaged ropes is dangerous: it can cause serious injuries to people or objects near the area where the operations using the winch are carried out. 3.3.1.

    Rev. 00 3.5. USE OF THE SAFETY BRAKE The winch is equipped with an automatic safety brake to stop the dragging of the load in hazardous situations. The improper use of the brake causes damages to the winch components resulting in a loss of warranty.

    Rev. 00 3.6. USE OF THE GAS CONTROL KNOB For a proper use of the knob (Fig.17) you need to know the Work functions, so you can turn on the machine and check its working Button position speed. SWITCHING ON THE MOTOR To start the motor proceed as follows: 1) After carefully performing all preparation and refueling operations, set the gas control lever and the red button in the START position (see section 3.6). 2) With the motor being cold, press the primer 5-6 times until the mix drains out of the exhaust pipe (to fill all the carburetor chambers completely).

    Rev. 00 3.8. ROPE WRAPPING ON DRUM AND REPLACEMENT The winches are sold with the pre-installed cable. The rope wrapping on the drum is a very important operation for the lifetime of the rope. When replacing the worn ropes, follow the instructions below: 1.
  • Page 20 Rev. 00 the rope could be projected to the sides in case of breakage. Make sure that there are no people in the working area and they stay at a proper safety distance. For your safety, always work with a second operator. Locate the object to be dragged and properly secured it to the winch, place the quick release flange completely out to put the drum into neutral.

If this happens, release the tension on the rope and stop the motor before releasing the crossing. • Preventively plan the signals between the operator using the winch and those who assist him to avoid hazardous situations.
