SAFETY GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND PRACTICES A careful operator is the best operator. Safety is of primary importance to the manufacturer and should be to the owner/operator. Most accidents can be avoided by being aware of your equipment, your surroundings, and observing certain precautions.
SAFETY OPERATOR SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND PRACTICES Never crawl under a raised Implement supported solely by the Power Unit boom. Release of the control lever or mechanical failure will result in the Implement falling and possible injury or death. Always securely block up the Implement before crawling underneath to perform repairs and service.

SAFETY KEEP AWAY FROM ROTATING ELEMENTS to prevent entanglement and possible serious injury or death. (SPHD-2) str NEVER put hands on the Post Hole Digger Auger, Gearbox, or Boom to locate the Auger when there is any sign of rotation of the Driveline or Auger. Post Hole Diggers are operated by one person from the tractor seat.
SAFETY NEVER use drugs or alcohol immediately before or while operating the Power Unit and Implement. Drugs and alcohol will affect an operator’s alertness and coordination and therefore affect the operator’s ability to operate the equipment safely. Before operating the Power Unit or Implement, an operator on prescription or over-the-counter medication must consult a medical professional regarding any side effects of the medication that would hinder their ability to operate the Equipment safely.

SAFETY Operate this Equipment only with a Power Unit equipped with an approved operator Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS). Always wear seat belts. Serious injury or even death could result from falling off the Power Unit-- particularly during a turnover when the operator could be pinned under the Operator Protective Structure.
SAFETY Do not operate this Equipment with hydraulic oil or fuel leaking. Oil and fuel are explosive and their presence could present a hazard. Do not check for leaks with your hand! High-pressure oil streams from breaks in the line could penetrate the skin and cause tissue damage including gangrene.
SAFETY Use extreme care when the Auger is in the transport position to prevent contact between the Auger and bystanders or solid objects. Contact with the Auger could cause serious damage, injury, or death. Never operate the Auger while in the transport position. (SPHD-12) str Transport only at safe speeds.

SAFETY Always maintain the safety signs in good readable condition. If the safety signs are missing, damaged, or unreadable, obtain and install replacement safety signs immediately. These parts are made and tested to Bush Hog specifications. Non-genuine "will fit" parts do not consistently meet these specifications. The use of “will fit” parts may reduce equipment performance, void warranties, and present a safety hazard. Use genuine Bush Hog parts for economy and safety.

PHDHF SERIES PHDHC SERIES The Bush Hog Planetary Drive Digger features a high torque level to power the auger through the most demanding conditions. All augers are heavy industrial grade with 3/8” thick flighting. Sized in diameters from 6” to 36” (depending on model). These are excellent for all soil conditions, including compacted soils, frozen ground, solid rock and concrete.
NOTE: Warranties are honored only if completed “Owner Registration and Warranty” forms are received by Bush Hog within thirty days of delivery of the implement. 3. Record the Model and Serial Numbers on the Warranty page at the front of the Operator’s Manual. Keep this as part of the permanent maintenance file for the implement.

The Bush Hog F-2 Series hydraulic auger drives are available in four models for systems operating between 5 and 35 GPM and 2000 to 3500 PSI. F-2 series auger drives are designed with a planetary gearbox to eliminate chain and sprocket reductions found on drives in this class and price range.

OPERATION 2. OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS Safe operation of the unit is the responsibility of a qualified operator. A qualified operator has read and understands the implement and tractor Operator’s Manuals and is experienced in implement and tractor operation and all associated safety practices. In addition to the safety messages contained in this manual, safety signs are affixed to the implement and tractor.

OPERATION Do not operate the unit under any circumstance if the slope is 10 degrees or greater. 3.2 Power Unit Safety Devices If transporting or operating the power unit and implement near a public roadway, the power unit must be equipped with proper warning lighting and a Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblem which are clearly visible from the rear of the unit.
OPERATION 4. GETTING ON AND OFF THE POWER UNIT Before getting onto the power unit, the operator must read and completely understand the implement and power unit operator manuals. If any part of either manual is not completely understood, consult an authorized dealer for a complete explanation.

OPERATION 6. PRE-OPERATION INSPECTION AND SERVICE Before each use, a pre-operation inspection and service of the implement and power unit must be performed. This includes routine maintenance and scheduled lubrication, inspecting that all safety devices are equipped and functional, and performing needed repairs. Do not operate the implement and power unit it the pre- operation inspection reveals any condition affecting safe operation.
OPERATION 6.2 Digger Pre-Operation Inspection/Service Before each digger use, a complete inspection and service is required to ensure the digger is in a good and safe working condition. Damaged and/or broken parts should be repaired and/or replaced immediately. To ensure the digger is ready for operation, conduct the following: The operator’s manual and safety signs affixed on the unit contain important instructions on the safe and proper use of the equipment.

Make sure the Post Hole Digger is resting on the ground or securely blocked up and all hydraulic pressure has been relieved.
OPERATION 7. OPERATING THE POWER UNIT AND IMPLEMENT THE OPERATOR MUST COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND HOW TO OPERATE THE POWER UNIT AND IMPLEMENT AND ALL CONTROLS BEFORE STARTING TO DIG. The operator must read and understand the Safety and Operation Sections of the implement and power unit operator’s manuals.
OPERATION 7.1 Digger Operating Instructions 1. Spot auger pilot over mark where hole is to be drilled. LOCK POWER UNIT BRAKES - if power unit rolls forward or backwards with auger in the ground, the auger, gearbox, or hitch may be damaged or broken. 2.
OPERATION 7.2 Auger Selection Based On Drilling Application The digger must be equipped with the proper auger type for the drilling application at hand. A wide range of augers and sizes are available for drilling in compacted soils, frozen ground, and loose and solid rock. In some applications the digger can be used to drill concentrate (without rebar) if adequate down pressure can be applied to the auger by the power unit (not recommended for skid steer operated units).
OPERATION 8.IMPLEMENT STORAGE Properly preparing and storing the implement at the end of the season is critical to maintaining its appearance and to help ensure years of dependable service. OPERATION 9.1 Transporting on Public Roadways Extreme caution should be used when transporting the power unit and implement on public roadways. The power unit must be equipped with all required safety warning features including a SMV emblem and flashing warning lights to alert drivers of the power unit’s presence. Remember that roadways are primarily designed for automotive drivers and most drivers will not be looking out for you, therefore, you must look out for them.
OPERATION When operating public roads, have consideration for other road users. Pull to the side of the road occasionally to allow all following traffic to pass. Do not exceed the legal speed limit set in your country for agricultural power units.

OPERATION Use adequately sized and rated trailers and equipment to transport the tractor and implement. Consult an authorized dealer to determine the proper equipment required. Using adequately sized chains, heavy duty straps, cables and/or binders, securely tie down both the front and rear of the tractor utilizing the proper tie down locations as specified by the tractor manufacturer.

MAINTENANCE Before operating the Post Hole Digger, make sure it is properly lubricated and thoroughly inspected. Only a minimum of time and effort is required to regularly lubricate and maintain this machine to provide long life and trouble free operation. LUBRICATION INFORMATION The drilling machine must be properly lubricated to achieve the best operation and longest life.
MAINTENANCE AUGER MAINTENANCE Inspect auger to loose, worn, broken and missing cutting teeth and points. Worn teeth and points can greatly affect auger penetration and greatly reduce auger life expectancy. Always keep spare teeth and points on hand. Some digging may require inspecting teeth and point condition more frequently. On rock augers, inspect the wear of hardfacing.
MAINTENANCE HYDRAULIC LINES, COUPLERS & ADAPTERS Keep all hoses and adapters tight. Repair any leaks immediately. Do not over-tighten hose end fittings. Tighten to specifications only. (See Chart below) PROPER TORQUE FOR FASTENERS The chart lists the correct tightening torque for fasteners. When bolts are to be tightened or replaced, refer to this chart to determine the grade of bolts and the proper torque except when specific torque values are assigned in manual text.
