Even though home Computers are not affected by cigarette smoke as much as commercial Computers are affected, it is better to maintain a smoke-free area around the Computer.

If by inserting a diskette that is not write protected into the the Disk Drive is a single sided drive, use a single sided Disk Drive and check for a high logic reading at pin 10 of IC cleaning diskette to avoid damaging the head pad.

    SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Use an isolation transformer for servicing. Maintain AC line voltage at rated input. Remove AC power from the Disk Drive before servicing or installing electrostatically sensitive devices. Examples of typical ES devices are integrated circuits and semiconductor "chip" components. Use extreme caution when handling the printed circuit boards.
