Read this Manual Before Using Hand Control This manual contains important procedures and required safety information for operating a vehicle equipped with the Veigel Compact II Hand Control. You must read and understand this entire manual before driving any vehicle that has a hand control installed.

Use the Hand Controls Safely • Make sure you know how much force and control movement is required to accelerate, slow down, and brake the vehicle. Be sure you can speed up and slow down at safe rates. • Each driver must practice using the hand control before driving on public roads. Make sure you can operate the control safely while observing good driving practices and paying attention to traffic conditions.
Describes additional information that needs special attention when learning a concept or performing a procedures. The Compact II Hand Control is made for simple and reliable operation. The control is mechanically connected to the vehicle’s gas and brake pedals (see Figure 1).
BEFORE USING THE HAND CONTROL The hand control and control linkage cuts down the space and adjustment area of the driver’s seat. Therefore special diligence for driving the vehicle is demanded. GET FAMILIAR WITH YOUR HAND CONTROL Each installation of the Veigel Hand Control is unique. The location and position of the controls depends on the interior space and construction of the vehicle.
BASIC USER INSTRUCTION WARNING: When operating your vehicle with the Veigel Hand Control, you must always keep your left hand on the steering wheel to control your vehicle at all times. ACCELERATING AND SLOWING DOWN To accelerate, pull handle of hand control back. Hold it in this position when the desired speed is reached.
LOCKING THE BRAKE BRAKE LOCK FUNCTION The brake lock is designed to easily lock the control with it pushed forward applying the brake. It is meant for the user to be able to engage and disengage easily with one hand. BRAKE LOCK USES With the brake lock engaged the following operations can be performed with one hand, typically the right hand, without having to reach across the body to hold the control forward with the left hand.
BRAKE LOCK BUTTON INSTRUCTIONS The Compact II has brake lock buttons on the sides of the handle. When engaging the brake lock only one of the two buttons needs to be pushed in for proper use. Normally the button on the left side is pushed in with the right thumb.
INSTRUCTION FOR NON-PHYSICALLY IMPAIRED DRIVERS Veigel requires that the vehicle be driven only by a physically impaired persons. Non-physically impaired persons could drive by using the pedals, but: • In order to minimize any risk, we recommend the vehicle not to be used by a non-physically impaired persons on a regular basis.
