Kick Back Brake
Revision 2 – May 28, 2019
Status
No Issue
Tool is plugged in and a has power.
E-switch
The switch is in the ON position when
Protection
power is applied. The unit stayed off.
(No-Volt)
A pinch or sudden deceleration of the
accessory has been sensed by the
tool and the kickback brake has been
activated.
The tool has sensed that a critical
Thermal
temperature of the motor or module
Protection
has been reached and it has shut
down to prevent further damage.
The tool has sensed that the operator
has started/stopped the tool too

overheating during repeated rapid
start-up and braking.
When the tool is overloaded and
slowed to a low speed threshold
torque is reduced to replicate the feel
of mechanical clutch and protect the

tool. If pressure is reduced allowing
the tool rpm to increase full torque will
return. If the tool is kept in Constant
Clutch mode for an extended period it
will result in a stall shutdown
The tool has sensed one of two
conditions and has shutdown:
-Accessory was pinched or bound
Stall/Overload
when tool is switched on. The
Protection
threshold is 0 rpm for <1 second.
-The accessory was stalled or bound
up during use for an extended time
period. See Constant Clutch.
The tool has sensed a poor-quality

power source such as a low quality
Line
generator. The tool will shutdown to
prevent damage to the tool.
Description / Problem
Solution for Operator
Cycle the switch to restart.
Inspect accessory for damage from
pinch and replace if necessary.
Adjust work piece and tool position
as necessary and cycle switch to
restart.
Ensure intake and exhaust vents
are not blocked by user or debris
during use. Adjust pressure to allow
for increased RPM.
Tool will restart with switch cycle
once cooled below the shutdown
threshold.
Reduce feathering of switch. A
variable speed SKU should be used
if reduced speeds are required.
To reset/restart the tool after this
shutdown the tools power supply
must be cycled: unplug the tool and
plug back in, cycle switch to restart.
Reduce pressure on the accessory
to allow the rpm to increase and
torque to return. Ensure the
accessory is not being bound-up.
Adjust accessory and workpiece as
needed.
Remove load from tool and cycle
switch to restart.
Try another power source, reduce
extension cord length or reduce
equipment load on the power
source.
