Welcome to the MADI.SRC, Lawo’s purpose designed solution for real-time sample rate conversion of a MADI signal: The MADI.SRC enables real time sample rate conversion of a complete MADI stream (64 audio channels). The device includes 32 high quality stereo sample rate converters (SRCs), and supports all source and destination sample rates from 44.1...
For example, if two digital systems cannot use the same Wordclock source, the MADI.SRC can be used as a decoupling device to connect both asynchronous systems without any loss of audio quality. With the SRC switched off, the device works as a simple format converter, and provides different MADI formats at the output ports (48k/96k Frame, 56/64 channels).
Split Mode: inputs and outputs are combined. 2-way Mode: bi-directional operation. USB: USB 2.0 port for servicing such as firmware updates. Power Supply: This device is equipped with two phase-redundant power supplies. MADI.SRC Manual V1.0/5 9/ 37...
All devices MUST be grounded. The MADI.SRC is grounded through its IEC power connections. All devices MUST be connected to the mains using the three-cord power leads supplied with the system.

In 2-way Mode, the assignment of the SRCs is fixed so that 48 channels can be converted in one direction and 16 channels in the other. This allows a single MADI.SRC to convert the sample rate simultaneously in both directions. This chapter describes each mode in detail.
In Normal Mode only one MADI input can be used at a time and both outputs transmit identical signals in parallel. The MADI.SRC automatically detects the sample rate (base rate) and frame format of the MADI input signal. The detected base rate may then be multiplied by a scaling factor of 1, 2 or 4 resulting in the following sample rates: ...
The number of available channels in a MADI frame is 64 channels at 1FS; 32 channels at 2FS or 16 channels at 4FS. The MADI.SRC provides 64 SRC channels independent of the selected FS, optimising the device for higher sample rates.
In 2-way Mode, the assignment of the SRC channels is fixed so that 48 channels can be converted in one direction and 16 channels in the other. This allows a single MADI.SRC to convert the sample rate simultaneously in both directions.

Normally, the scaling factor of the base sample rate (1FS, 2FS or 4FS) is defined manually for input and output from the SRC controls. However, the MADI.SRC offers an option to switch the output scaling factor automatically – Auto Clock Range Select (ACRS).
Application Examples Chapter 5: Application Examples Introduction This chapter describes how the MADI.SRC device can be used. Example 1: Independent Clock Sources At this music festival, the OB Van (recording) and FOH (Front of House) require independent clock references such that the FOH can use a “closed”...
(Note that no latency is introduced in this process). The MADI.SRC is set to operate in Split Mode, with MADI input 1 selected. This allows two MADI signals to be processed, expanding the bandwidth by a factor of two.
The OB Van sends 16 channels (at 48kHz) to the stage using input 1 of the MADI.SRC. The MADI.SRC is set to operate in 2-way Mode. This allows it to convert the sample rate of both MADI streams with just one MADI.SRC unit.
