With this unit, you can:

  1. LED indicator
    • Standby indicator: turns red when this product is switched to standby.
    • Bluetooth indicator: turns blue to indicate the Bluetooth connection status.
    • Switch this product on or to standby.

Get started


Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than here in may result in hazardous radiation exposure or other unsafe operation.
Always follow the instructions in this chapter in sequence.

Connect speakers

Note

  • Insert the stnpped portion of each speaker wire into the socket completely.
  • For better sound quality, use the supplied speakers only.
  1. For the right speaker, find the sockets on the back of the main unit marked "R'
  2. Insert the red wire into the red (+) socket, and the black wire into the black (-) socket.
  3. For the left speaker, find the sockets on the main unit marked "L".
  4. Repeat step 2 to insert the left speaker wire.

  1. Hold down the socket flap.
  2. Insert the speaker wire fully.
  3. Release the socket flap

Connect power

  • Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back or the underside of the unit.
  • Risk of electric shock! Before you plug the AC power cord, make sure that the plug is fixed securely. When you unplug the AC power cord, always pull the plug, never pull the cord.
  • Before you connect the AC power cord, make sure that you have completed all the other connections

Connect power
Connect the power cable to the wall socket.

Prepare the remote control

  • Risk of product damage! When the remote control is not used for long periods, remove the batteries.
  • Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be disposed of properly.

To insert the remote control battery:

  1. Openthe battery compartment.
  2. Insertt he supplied AAA battery with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated
  3. Close the battery compartment.

Power on

Press .
>The product switches to the last selected source.

Switch to standby mode
Press again to switch the product to standby with no clock display, or to standby with clock display.
> The red standby indicator lights up.

  • In standby, you may press and hold CLOCK to toggle clock display on or off.

Note

  • The product switches to standby mode after 15 minutes inactive.
  • To achieve the efficient energy saving performance, unplug any external electronic device from the IJSB port when the device is not in use.

Set the clock

  1. In power on mode, press and hold CLOCK for more than 2 seconds to enter the clock setting mode.
    > [241-4] o r [121-4] is displayed.
  2. Press to select 24H or 12H hour format, and then press CLOCK
    > The hour digits begin to blink.
  3. Press to set the hour, and then press CLOCK
    > The minute digits begin to blink.
  4. Press to set the minute, and then press CLOCK
    > The clock is set.

Note

  • To view clock in power on mode, press briefly CLOCK
  • In standby, you may press and hold CLOCK to toggle clock display on or off
  • If clock display is turned on in standby, power consumption Increases.

Play

Play from disc

  1. Press CD to select CD source.
  2. Press to open the disc compartment.
  3. Insert a disc with the label side up.
  4. Press to close the disc compartment.

Play from USB

Note

  • Make sure that the USB device contains playable audio content.

Play from USB

  1. Insert a USB device into thesocket.
  2. Press USB to select the USB source.

Control play

Start, pause, or resume play.
Stop play.
Select an album or a folder.
Press to skip to the previous or next track. Press and hold to search backward/forward within a track.
MODE Play a track or all tracks repeatedly. Play tracks randomly.
+/- Increase or decrease the volume.
Mute or unmute sound.
SOUND Select a preset sound equalizer.
DIM Adjust display brightness.
INFO Show playback information.

Skip tracks

For CD:
Press to select tracks.

For MP3 disc and USB:

  1. Press to select an album or a folder.
  2. Press to select a track or a file.

Program tracks

This function allows you to program 20 tracks in the desired sequence.

  1. In stop mode, press PROG/SCAN to activate the program mode.
    >[POI] is displayed.
  2. For MP3 tracks, press to select an album
  3. Press to select a track, and then press PROG/SCAN to confirm.
  4. Repeat steps 2 to 3 to program more tracks.
  5. Pressto play the programmed tracks.

To erase the program
Press twice.

Play from Bluetooth enabled devices

Note

  • Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not guaranteed.
  • Any obstacle between the unit and the device can reduce the operational range,
  • The effective operation range between this unit and your Bluetooth enabled device is approximately 10 meters (30 feet).
  • The unit can memorize up to 8 previously connected Bluetooth devices.

Play from Bluetooth enabled devices

  1. Press to select the Bluetooth source.
    > [BT] (Bluetooth) is displayed
    > The Bluetooth indicator blinks blue.
  2. On your device that supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), enable Bluetooth and search for Bluetooth devices that can be paired (refer to the user manual of the device).
  3. Select "Philips M4205 "on your Bluetooth enabled device and if necessary input (0000' as the paring password.
    • If you fail to find Philips M4205 ' or cannot pair with this product, press and hold PAIRING for more than 2 seconds to enter pairing mode.
      > After successful pairing and connection, the Bluetooth indicator turns solid blue, and the unit beeps twice.
  4. Play audio on the connected
    > Audio streams from your Bluetooth enabled device to this product.

To disconnect the Bluetooth-enabled device:

  • Deactivate Bluetooth on your device.
  • Press and hold PAIRING for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode.

Listen to FM radio

Tune to a radio station

Tip

  • Position the antenna as far as possible from TV, or other radiation source.
  • For optimal reception, fully extend and adjust the position of the antenna.
  1. Press FM to select FM source.
  2. Press and hold for more than 2 seconds.
    > The radio tunes to a station with strong reception automatically.
  3. Repeat step 2 to tune to more stations.

To tune to a weak station:
Press repeatedly until you find optimal reception.

Store radio stations automatically

Note

  • You can store a maximum of 10 FM radio stations.
  1. Press FM to select FM source.
  2. Press and holdPROG/SCAN f or more than 2 seconds.
    > All available stations are programmed in the order of waveband reception strength.
    > The first programmed radio station is broadcast automatically.

Store radio stations manually

  1. Tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Press PROG/SCAN t o activate program mode.
    > [POI] is displayed
  3. Press to allocate a number from 1-10 to this radio station, and then press PROG/SCAN to confirm
  4. Repeat s teps1-3to program more stations.

Note

  • To overwrite a programmed station, store another station in its place.

Select a preset radio station

In FM mode, press to select a preset number.

Adjust sound

The following operations are applicable to all supported media.

Select a preset sound effect

  • Press SOUND repeatedly to select a preset sound effect.

Adjust volume level

  • On the remote control, press +/- (volume) repeatedly.
  • On the main unit, rotate the volume knob.

Mute sound

  • Press to mute or unmute the sound.

Other features

Set the alarm timer

This product can be used as an alarm clock. You can select the disc, radio, or mp3 files on a USB storage device as alarm source.

Note

  • Alarm timer is not available in AUDIO IN mode.
  • If CD/IJSB source is selected, but no disc is placed or no USB device is connected, the radio source is selected automatically.
  1. Make sure that you have set the clock.
  2. In standby mode, press and hold SLEEP/TIMER for more than 2 seconds.
    > The hour digits blink.
  3. Press repeatedly to set the hour, and then press SLEEP/TIMER to confirm.
    > The minute digits blink.
  4. Press to set the minute, and then press SLEEP/TIMER to confirm.
    > The last selected alarm source blinks.
  5. Press to select an alarm source (disc, USB or FM radio), and then press SLEEP/TIMER to confirm.
    > xx blinks (XX indicates the volume level of alarm).
  6. Press to set the alarm volume, and then press SLEEP/TIMER to confirm

Activate/deactivate alarm timer
In standby mode, press SLEEP/TIMER repeatedly to activate or deactivate timer.
> If timer is activated, is displayed.

  • In standby, you may press and hold CLOCK to toggle clock display on or off.

Set the sleep timer

This music system can switch to standby automatically after a set period of time.

  • When the music system is turned on, press SLEEP/TIMER repeatedly to select a set period of time (in minutes).
    > When sleep timer is activated, is displayed.

To deactivate sleep timer

  • Press SLEEP/TIMER repeatedly until [OFF] (sleep off) is displayed
    >When sleep timer is deactivated, disappears.

Listen to an external device

You can listen to an external device through this unit with an MP3 link cable.
Listen to an external device

  1. Connect an MP3 link cable (not supplied) between:
    • AUDIO IN jack (3.5 mm) on the product,
    • and the headphone jack on an external device.
  2. Press AUDIO IN repeatedly to select AUDIO IN source.
  3. Start to play the device (see the device user manual).

Charge your devices

With this micro music system, you can charge your external devices, such as your cell phone, MP3 player or other mobile devices.

  1. Use a USB cable to connect the USB socket of this product with the USB socket of your devices.
  2. Connect the product to power.
    > Once the device is recognized, the charging starts.

Troubleshooting

  • Never remove the casing of this device.

To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself. f you encounter problems when using this device, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the Philips Web page (www.philips.com/support). When you contact Philips, make sure that the device is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.

No power

  • Make sure that the AC power cord of the device is connected properly.
  • Make sure that there is power at the AC outlet.
  • As a power-saving feature, the system switches off automatically 15 minutes after track play reaches the end and no control is operated

No sound or poor sound

  • Adjust the volume.
  • Check that the speakers are connected correctly.
  • Check if the stripped speaker wires are clamped

No response from the unit

  • Disconnect and reconnect the AC power plug, then turn on the unit again.
  • As a power-saving feature, the system switches off automatically 15 minutes after track play reaches the end and no control is operated

Remote control does not work

  • Before you press any function button, first select the correct source with the remote control instead of the main unit.
  • Reduce the distance between the remote control and the unit.
  • Insert the battery with its polarities (+/ signs) aligned as indicated
  • Replace the battery.
  • Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the unit.

No disc detected

  • Insert a disc.
  • Check if the disc is inserted upside down
  • Wait until the moisture condensation at the lens has cleared
  • Replace or clean the disc. Use a finalized CD or correct format disc.

Cannot display some files in USB device

  • The number of folders or files in the USB device has exceeded a certain limit. This phenomenon is not a malfunction
  • The formats of these files are not supported.

USB device not supported

  • The USB device is incompatible with the unit. Try another one.

Poor radio reception

  • Increase the distance between the unit and your TV or other radiation sources.
  • Fully extend the radio antenna.

Music playback is unavailable on this unit even after successful Bluetooth connection.

  • The device cannot be used to play music through this unit wirelessly.

The audio quality is poor after connection with a Bluetooth-enabled device.

  • The Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the device closer to this unit or remove any obstacle between them.

Bluetooth cannot be connected with this unit

  • The device does not support the profiles required for this unit.
  • The Bluetooth function of the device is not enabled. Refer to the user manual of the device to find out how to enable the function.
  • This unit is not in pairing mode.
  • This unit is already connected with another Bluetooth-enabled device.
    Disconnect that device and then try again.

The paired mobile device connects and disconnects constantly

  • The Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the device closer to this unit or remove any obstacle between them
  • Some mobile phones may connect and disconnect constantly when you make or end calls. This does not indicate any malfunction of this unit.
  • For some devices, the Bluetooth connection may be deactivated automatically as a power-saving feature. This does not indicate any malfunction of this unit.

Timer does not work

  • Set the clock correctly.
  • Switch on the timer.

Clock/timer setting erased

  • Power has been interrupted or the power cord has been disconnected.
  • Reset the clock/timer.

How to keep clock display on or off in standby?

  • In standby, press and hold CLOCK to toggle clock display on or off.

    To prevent battery leakage which may result in bodily injury, property damage, or damage to the product.
    • Install the battery correctly, + and - as marked on the product.
    • The battery (packed or installed) shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.
    • Remove the battery when the product is not used for a long time.
  • The product shall not exposed to dripping or splashing.
  • Do no place any source of danger on the product (e.g. liquid filled objects. lit candles).
  • Where the MAINS plug or an appliance coupler is used as the disconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readily operable.
