    Chapter System Overview I N T R O D U C T I O N : ® The buddy lit AC in-line Blood/Fluid Warmer is a miniature portable fluid warmer and sensing device that warms intra-venous fluids (including blood products) to physiological temperature at flow rates up to 80 ml/min (4.8 L/hr) for crystalloids at 20°C and up to 50 ml/min (3.0 L/hr) for packed red cells at 10°C.
  • Page 5 WARNING The control system can only be used with the Belmont supplied disposable. Do not alter the disposable, Heater Unit, or battery pack or AC/DC supply. Use only with crystalloid or anticoagulated blood products. Do not use in the presence of flammable anesthetics. CAUTION The system should not be used with pressure infusers.

    The AC/DC supply is a medical switch-mode power supply with universal 100VAC – 240VAC input, and an 18 VDC output. It connects to the housing via an AC Adapter. The disposable set has a sterile fluid path and is Check Valve intended for single-use only.

    Chapter Operation of the System I N T R O D U C T I O N ® This section reviews the set up and operation of the buddy lite AC Blood/Fluid Warmer to ensure safe and effective operation of the system. CAUTION: Use of this device requires detailed familiarity with its operating procedures.
  • Page 9 WARNINGS: Use only the Belmont supplied disposable. The disposable set is a single- use, sterile, non-pyrogenic Blood/Fluid path. Do not change or alter the disposable. Use extreme caution when handling the disposable; do not expose the disposable to sharp objects. Do not use in the presence of flammable anesthetics.

    F L O W C H A R A C T E R I S T I C S ® The buddy lite AC Blood/Fluid Warmer is designed for gravity flow. The maximum flow rates achievable will be determined by the size of the catheter employed. The disposable has been designed to withstand up to 300 mmHg infusion pressure, provided the disposable set is within the Heater Unit and latched.

    Chapter Service and Maintenance I N T R O D U C T I O N The buddy lite ® AC Blood/Fluid Warmer has no internal user serviceable parts and does not require calibration except for the battery fuel gauge. Routine maintenance consists of cleaning and inspecting the Heater Unit, recharge the battery after each use, recalibrate the battery fuel gauge, and testing the system operational.

Recalibrate the Battery Fuel Gauge: If the battery fuel gauge needs to be recalibrated, the red LED indicator, on the battery charger, will flash. The recalibration is used to ensure the reliability of the battery capacity.
