ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 1.2 Power Requirements The imagesetter engine requires power supplied in the range of 90 to 130 volts or 180 to 260 volts and 50 to 60 Hz single phase. The imagesetter power supply will automatically sense the incoming voltage and adjust accordingly.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 film is affected by relatively small changes in humidity. This may affect the registration of successive film separations. Low humidity also contributes to problems related to static electricity, such as film jams, improper film feeding, and certain undesirable artifacts on developed film.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 2. GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR IMAGESETTER 2.1 Key features - General Description ExxtraSetters are compact, desktop film recorders that produce film quality comparable to floor standing, internal drum recorders of significantly higher cost. The film to film repeatability of the ExxtraSetter is typically within ±.0005 over the entire 12.5"...
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 ‘Exxtra Capacity’ Output Cassette The Exxtra Capacity output cassette is standard with the Maxxima model. It contains a spooling mechanism which will accept 50 feet (15 meters) or more of exposed 0.004” (0.1mm) thick film or polyester plate. It will accept somewhat less photographic paper.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 2.2 ExxtraSetter Imagesetter Parts Identification 2.2.1 Machine Identification Label The identification label includes information and certifications required by various regulatory organizations. Included on this label is the machine Serial Number which should be referenced when requesting technical information. Note that the Maxxima is Model Number 300 M.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 2.2.2 Inside of the User Compartment 2.2.2.1 Imager The Imager assembly consists of a pair of precision machined aluminum castings (sometimes referred to as the Clam shells) that support the laser, optics, switchable aperture, laser electronics, and spinner motor assembly.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 2.2.3 Sensors and Safety Interlocks The condition of each of the interlock sensors described below, as well as some others whose operation is invisible to the operator, is reported to the host computer. How the host software deals with these messages may be different for a given host.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 To date, several different manufacturers 100 foot (30 meter) and 150 foot (45 meters) disposable cassettes have been used successfully. Some disposable cassettes cause film feed problems because too much force is required to pull film from the cassette. Bulk load products tend to be less expensive and easier to get than their disposable cassette counterparts.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 4. USING THE IMAGESETTER CONTROL PANEL 4.1 Introduction This section describes the workings of the Imagesetter control panel, including descriptions of status and error messages which tell the operator what the machine is doing and help in diagnosing any problems that occur.

When there is film in the Output Cassette: A counter records the amount of film and number of images in the output cassette.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 Note that although density can be selected from the host computer, it will not be permanently stored. Displays the amount of film dispensed (in feet or meters depending on the film feed. It is reset to zero by pressing the Select key Displays the amount of film remaining in the supply cassette.

ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 Re-selecting a test while it is running will terminate the test. A new test may then be selected to begin at this point. Unless otherwise specified, all Self-tests measure 12.51" wide by 18.75" plus 6 pixels long.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 5. BASIC OPERATING PROCEDURES 5.1 Introduction 5.1.1 How The Host Works With the Imagesetter The imagesetter engine itself contains none of the smarts required to turn an image into rasterized data that can be painted onto film one line of binary data at a time. The convert a combination of vector data, type font information and bit mapped images into binary raster data for the imagesetter.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 created the data stream, (which is a series of binary data), it can begin to send the data to the imagesetter for printing. Depending on the complexity of the job (which affects how much time the processing), the speed of the make a decision whether to try to keep up with the imagesetter and risk stop/start operation.
They should move about 3/32 inch (2.3 mm) to ensure proper locking. ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 With the Supply Cassette handle facing you, open the cassette by sliding the two plastic buttons above the handle toward each other.
Supply Cassette, down for most disposable cassettes. - The bulk load cassette position is shown. ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 1. Open the film compartment door and the top cover. 2. Release the Film Feed Roller by pulling on both red handles while simultaneously pushing the red thumb rests with your thumbs.

This can be used as a handle when you are removing the empty cassette from the film supply compartment. ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 5. Pull the film up while sliding the cassette into the film compartment. Push the cassette all the way to the back of the compartment.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 5.4 Setting Proper Exposure Density The ExxtraSetter is set up at the factory so that exposed areas of Kodak Pagi-Set IR film will measure a Dmax (maximum exposure density) of 3.7 to 4.3 when the approximation because of the varying effects of processing and different film lots. Dmax will also vary slightly between different resolutions.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 125% 6. The edge of each stripe on the film will be annotated with information about the operating condition of the imagesetter (the same information produced when the One item in this header is the DEN: or density setting for that stripe.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 Either media tracking system will work when given the correct information. The selection of which system to use, if any at all, is up to the user. The following sections describe the use of the imagesetter film counter;...
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 mostly used, then set the number to 200 feet. Note that the units are either in feet or meters depending on the units selected under register can be found under the 5.5.5 Setting the Film Low Warning register can be set to indicate a counter falls below or equal to the stored value.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 6. MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENTS 6.1 Servicing Knife 6.1.1 Need for Knife Service The Knife will periodically require servicing when the Knife Blade becomes dull. An indication of a possibly dulling blade may be frequent These symptoms should not be confused with problems related to the Knife returning after a completed cut which can be caused by misalignments.
Never use sharp objects when cleaning the imagesetter! Never use any cleaning solutions to clean the inside of the Imagesetter. To prevent damage, Dust, dirt and film emulsion can accumulate inside the printer contributing to degraded image quality and film scratches.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 To minimize this, it's a good idea to wipe the outside diameters of the Support Rings , and Imager Clam Shells with a clean, lint-free cloth each time a new roll of film is loaded . This will minimize the amount of foreign material that can get into the optics that are located within the Clam Shells.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 7. SOLVING IMAGESETTER PROBLEMS 7.1 Imagesetter Display Messages and Recommended Actions The Display messages have been described in detail along with recommended actions for clearing errors in Appendix B — Front Panel Status and Error Messages. 7.2 Solving Image Quality Problems 7.2.1 Scratches...
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 3. The Base plate between the front Film Feed Roller end the lower film exit lip. Burrs or nicks on the Clam Shell outside diameter can cause fast scan direction scratches when film is being fed through the imagesetter. If the Clam Shells are the cause, the scratches should only be evident where the Imager was located during the film feed (which is usually all the way to the right).
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 Does the incoming line power meet the proper requirements? g. Check the fuse. 7.3.3 Is there a 'Ready' Message? YES -go to next item NO - Check the following: Refer to Appendix B — Front Panel Status and Error Messages to eliminate all error conditions.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 7.3.5 Does the Imagesetter Engine Run Self Tests ? Load film and run the looks normal, the imagesetter engine is probably OK and the problem lies with either the interface or the host computer. b. Unplug all interface cables to the imagesetter and turn the imagesetter power switch five seconds) and back OK and the problem is in the interface.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 friction, etc.) If an new brand/type of film is in question, try a roll of a known ‘good’ film such as Kodak PagiSet IR Spec 820, 13.3” wide by 200’ maximum length. b. Supply Cassette - make sure that the film pulls smoothly from the cassette with little or no tension.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 7.5 Remote Diagnostics The Maxxima engine can be connected to an external modem so that service personnel can remotely examine operating conditions, error logs and run diagnostic tests on the engine without the cost and delay of a service call. Imagesetter firmware can also be upgraded remotely by this method.
ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 8. REPACKAGING IMAGESETTER FOR SHIPMENT OR RELOCATION The Imagesetter engine is a valuable, precision piece of equipment. The original packaging that was supplied with the unit has been built to protect the imagesetter from the rigors of shipping and handling. The packaging material must be saved in the event the unit has to be transported.
Remote Diagnostic Port: RS232 for external V.32 modem Physical Table Top: 29.2" wide x 14.2" high x 14.5" deep (64 x36 x 37 CM) ExxtraSetter Maxxima 300 95 pounds (41 KG) Power Requirements: 90-130, 180-260V autoranging, 50-60 Hz. 175 Watts max.
