BASIC TECHNIQUES

Where appropriate, secure the workpiece in a vice or
with clamps, supporting it on both sides of any cut
line to stop the cut-off wheel becoming trapped.

Next, grip the grinder firmly in both hands and
adopt a comfortable, stable stance that lets you see
what you are doing while keeping the whole of your
body behind the grinder' s wheel.
With the wheel clear of the workpiece, you can
now switch the grinder ON and wait for the wheel to
reach working speed.
To switch the grinder ON, move the safety bar forward
and squeeze in the air control lever, release to switch OFF
If GRINDING...
Work the grinder back and forth across the
surface, holding the wheel at an angle of 10 to 15
degrees – a new wheel may only require a single pass.
If CUTTING...
Move the grinder along the cut in a straight line,
keeping the wheel at a constant angle. Never twist the
grinder or apply sideways pressure – the wheel
could break up and cause damage or serious personal
injury.
WHATEVER you are doing...
On first contact with the surface, the grinder will
try to wander off line. Take great care until you
become familiar with its operations.
Apply just enough pressure to ensure reasonable
progress. Too much pressure will damage the wheel,
the workpiece, and the grinder.
Lift it clear before turning OFF , and wait for moving
parts to stop before putting it aside.
Never push the equipment beyond its design
limits. If it will not do what you want with reasonable
ease, assume you have the wrong grinder for the job.
Ask at your local HSS Hire Shop for advice.
Regularly check the condition of the grinder, if it
show signs of excessive wear contact your local HSS Hire
Shop for a replacement.
Keep the equipment clean. You will find this less of a
chore if you clean up regularly, rather than wait unit the
end of the hire period.
