Removable terminal block
One of the names given to a pluggable terminal block suitable for use with audio where connection to
permanent wiring makes their use more suitable than XLR or Jack connectors.
Transient
A sudden burst of energy in an audio signal which only lasts for a small period of time relative to the rest
of the signal. The level of these transients can often reach 10 times (+20dB) or so above the normal
operating level of the audio equipment, and may cause distortion if headroom is inadequate.
®
Speakon
A type of connector, manufactured by Neutrik with either 2, 4 or 8 pole connectors, specifically designed
for connecting speakers to amplifiers. PULSE amplifiers and the majority of loudspeakers use the 4 pole
type.
XLR
A type of connector used by audio professionals for connecting audio line, or microphone level signals to
equipment. Usually three pole. Note that some XLRs may be carrying AES/EBU digital signals and these
should not be plugged into audio channels.
